We will be gone 16 days on this trip, but I still will only take one small suitcase. Here are a couple of things that I do:
Lay out all of my clothes first.
Pick out neutral tones that can be mixed and matched easily--I take whites, blacks, greys and a few colors.
Take clothes that can be washed easily (we end up throwing colors and whites into one load most of the time.)
Plan on doing laundry (probably at least twice during this trip.)
Take only clothes that I enjoy wearing (since I will be wearing them a lot.)
Don't take things I really don't need.
Pack snacks in my backpack (for quick access) and in my suitcase for later in the trip.
Put small like items in a plastic bag (like underwear and bathing suit.)
Take one dress (in case we go out to nice dinner) that rolls up easily.
Limit the number of shoes to what I actually need (not what may look nice with a certain outfit.) For this trip a pair of hiking shoes, leather walking sandals and a pair of sturdy outdoor sandals.
Why do I pack like this? Because we will be moving around a lot. We will be taking buses, walking up and down dirt or gravel roads, and handling our own luggage (no bell hops etc.) So I keep it simple. My bag is easy to lift and roll.
