Where I stayed
The Magic Hostel
Moved from the Magic Hostel to Hostel Santa Isabell, which had been recommended by another traveller during breakfast. A dorm bed cost the same but turned out to be dirtier and less enjoyable than the Magic Hostel. The crowd didn't appeal to me but it might've been because I wasn't feeling that social. Half of them had dreadlocks and the other half were a group of Americans that stuck together. I decided to sit back and let them approach me rather than being my usual social self. It was nice when one of the American guys sat down with a large bottle of Beer and offered me a glass. We chatted for a few hours and he was a decent guy. Lifted my spirits a bit I suppose.
I also met up again with "the Canadian girl" I've mentioned before in a past entry. Her name is Jess and she's from Williams Lake and is a self-professed granola girl who lives in the sticks. SheŽs on her way to a two week meditation course somewhere in Mexico and this was her last night at the hostel, the same as me. IŽve decided to travel down to Chiapas in the morning.
Her Bus wasnŽt leaving until midnight so I talked her into going to the movies with me. The new Harry Potter movie is at the theatres here so we headed off to the Cineplex thing using the collectivo Bus. The theatre is at a huge Mall that's very modern and has shops like Blockbuster and Starbucks besides the massive multi-theatre cineplex. We could choose between the Spanish or English version and chose English. Cost for a ticket was 42 pesos, or $4.6 CDN. We also got popcorn, which you can also get spiced up if you want.
The theatre was very cool. Much like an IMAX with a large screen, sloped seating and comfortable chairs. We managed to get seats right in the middle thanks to a couple people moving around for us. The actual movie was great and I really enjoyed it and I think Jess did too (even though sheŽs against Hollywood as an industry). Fantastic special effects and some really dark content (maybe a bit too dark for some of the little kids in the theatre IŽd say).
Walking out of the theatre was strange because it wasnŽt until we took the escalator down to the lobby and joined the crowd of Mexicans that I remembered where I was. IŽd been transported by the movie I suppose, which is what I was hoping for I suppose. Sometimes you get tired of the travelling thing and just want a taste of home at times...
