Sad day. Time to leave. We woke up at 5am, left the apartment by 6am. We dragged our luggage about 20 minutes to Soga station, transferred to the Narita line at Chiba, then took that line all the way to the airport. One last convenient train, one last use of our rail passes. I think we used those for at least as much as they were worth. At the airport, we had slight problems checking in to get boarding passes, but then we were directed to a real person for help instead of struggling with the kiosk that probably didn't like our American passports. The real person was able to get us our passes. Whew, crisis averted. Then, when we went to check our baggage, one of Terry's bags exceeded the 23kg limit. uh-oh. He took out some sake and gave them to me to pack. That done, his bag made the limit at 22.9kg. Mine was exactly 23 kg. Whew again. haha. That was the last issue though. The flight back to the US on Nippon was SO much nicer than the flight to Japan on United. The Nippon seats were bigger, had nicer blankets and pillows, nicer and Japanese food, nicer utensils, nicer flight attendants, better movie selections...they just did everything better. Take note - if you are going on a 12-14 hour flight to Japan, chose Nippon over United. Upon arrival at O'hare, I caught a taxi to my parent's house. I was told returning was harder than leaving in terms of jetlag, but I felt fine all Thursday. I did wake up the next few days at 4am though. That aside, overall this was a great vacation, I love Japan, and am very glad that I went.
