Friday morning I decided I was tired of wasting all my days staying in one spot, so I took one of the double decker buses in the morning to Newhaven area, which was only about a 20 minute ride north.  I chose there for reasons which become obvious when you look at the photos.  It was a nice change of scenery for a bit, and it certainly helped to whet my appetite to get some real travel plans going.  So far my plan is to see the city sights between classes and then go further out on the weekends.  That was the morning.  I then stopped back at my flat for a quick lunch and change and went to Bristo square to meet up with ruggers to go to the 'freshers training'.  We played a little touch, and went over basics like tackling and passing, so it was really easy, but still fun.  I saw most of the girls from Germany there, and met almost everyone else on the team.  They all seem very cool, and also really good.  After training was over, we were assigned our rugby mums, who took us back to their apartment for some food and showering.  We were handed some free rugby shirts (sweet) that say 'I play rugby, what's your super power?'.  I approve.  Then, it was a night on the town, socializing, bar hopping, and trying to complete a photo scavenger hunt.  Fun times...

Saturday morning I was planning to try out some surfing with a trip with the surfing club, however, there was not enough room on the bus, and they ran out of space right before I was able to get a seat.  I will just have to check it out next time.  So instead, I came back to the flat, had some lunch, cleaned up the enormous mess in the kitchen/dining area, and then began planning some trips.  I also took a nap and read a bit.  Overall a somewhat wasted day, but I did make plans to walk around Sunday morning to take some pictures.  For dinner, it was falaffel, huommus (? they spell it weird), pitta bread, chips, and beans, which might not sound great, but it was pretty good.  Then the rest of my sick flatmates and I watched part of another movie, and went to sleep.

Sunday morning I strategically started wandering to take pictures to avoid crowds of people.  I stopped at the Scott monument, Charlotte square, Calton Hill, and then over to the Parliament building before lunch.  I forgot to grab some money, so I will have to go back to check out the Holyrood Palace, Queen's gallery, and the inside of the Parliament house if I can another time.  Now I am going to go check out the gym before it closes, then I dunno.  We'll see...

Erin,

Sounds like you are having a good time so far! I love study abroad---best experiences of my life...live it while you can and try to do something new each day that you would not be able to do back in the States ;o)

Hey MUBRO08
It looks like Edinburgh and Columbia share the same architect... What is it with standing columns and unfinished buildings?
