Bonjour! Bonjour!

Driving around the French countryside has been lovely.  We've been lucky with the weather - it's warmer than unusual and there's been little rain.

In Caen we visited the Abbey of the Women where Susan' s Aunt Mathilde is buried.  There is a photo of her next to the grave.  We drove past the Abbey of the Men and waved to Uncle William the Conqueror.  Susan's ancestry records go back to the year 810 and show her as related to William and Mathilda.

From there we headed to the D Day beaches, the American Cemetery, then the following day after a night in Bayeau, the British Cemetery, then the museum of the battle of Normandy.  Two war events, 900 years apart. We also saw the amazing tapestry depicting the Battle of Hastings -- 70 meters long, showing the story of how William the Bastard became William the Conqueror and leading up becoming King of England.   Uncle Bill.

We traveled onward to Mont St Michel then to the Brittany coast to stay with David and Didier, friends of some Cleveland neighbors.  They have a beautiful B & B on the coast and treated us royally with a home cooked meal and local wines.

Yesterday we we drove to our home for the next month -- a lovely house in Cendrieux.  It was a long drive -- 700 km -- but we are so glad to have gone to Normandy and Brittany.  We would return there in a heartbeat.  Maybe it's a place for a month another year.

As the sun set at the house in Cendrieux we explored and found that we are surrounded by fields of sunflowers, mostly gone by, but beautiful nonetheless.

Au revoir, love
Diane and Susan
