Where I stayed
Day 160: Today we finally did it and hired a car which turned out to be the best decision while being in Inverness. We headed south from Inverness and headed down the western side of Loch Ness trying to find the famous Loch Ness Monster. We stopped quite regularly along the road, which is the benifit of having a car, and took pictures and was always on the lookout for any movement in the water. We drove through a few small towns along the bank of the Loch and stopped in one for lunch and then continued driving stopping at random places, for photos and short walks.
We also stopped at Urquhart Castle which was the largest castle on the loch and changed familys during its time due to waring clans until it eventually fell to ruin. It wasn't a big military castle for kings due to its remotness, more of a getaway to hide out.
On the way back we drove along the eastern side of the loch because the guy we hired the car said tourists rarely drive on that side and is much prettier and I'm glad we took hes advise because it was definetly much more beautiful and there were hardly any other cars. We took random roads along the way and found some really good photo oppurtunities and just slowly made our way back to the hostel. All up we spent a good 10 hours driving and seeing the sights so will definetly hire a car again.
Day 161: We explored the city today after we returned the car and found out that there really isn't much else to see in the area unless you have a car but we made the most of it. Did a little shopping had some food at a pub but no museums or anything like that. That night while we were having dinner, the staff came around saying were having a quiz night so we decided to stay and have a go. We ended up coming last (all the teams had about 6 people so we didn't feel to bad) but we still had a fun time and if we come across another one we will give it ago and hopefully do better.
