I left Maffra by bus to Traralgon and train back to Melbourne and made my way by city tram to the St. Kilda area. I booked 2 nights at the Pint on Punt hostel, because it was walking distance to my interview and pretty affordable. ($24 per night) It was an interesting place. Lots of fun people, a nice little pub downstairs, but kind of on the grungier side of the accommodations I have stayed in. But at this point I could not afford to be too picky, so I just went with it. My interview went really well. David thought I would be great for the position, and he has interviewed about 100 people!!! The problem is he doesn’t start up again until February when kids go back to school here, and because of a delay in his new building permit, he is having to hold classes in his old facility, and can only run them one day a week. The new facility will be open in April and full time work will be available then. So again I was faced with good news that requires a wait... and this time I cannot afford to wait.
So I walked around St Kilda, along St Kilda beach and back to the hostel and again continued the job search!!! Had a fun night with my fellow travellers and a bottle of wine from the wine job! The next morning I got on the job search trail again, but started getting really frustrated and was feeling a lot of anxiety due to the constant ups and downs, the hurry up and waits, the go here-go there and not knowing what’s going got happen tomorrow. Part of me loves the thrill of it all- its the ultimate adventure but I have to admit it has been very stressful lately. So stressful in fact that this morning I was looking for flights home for tomorrow!! With the cheapest flight being $1300 to Los Angeles and then $200 or so more to Vancouver, I realised that this was not possible right now, and then I checked my face book to find a job posted on a page I have subscribed to called backpacker jobs. A Caravan Park in Apollo Bay (Great Ocean Rd- South West of Melbourne) needed a cleaner/receptionist with accommodation and meals included. I had intended to stay at the Pint Backpackers for one more week just to ensure I had somewhere to stay over Christmas, but luckily I hadn’t paid my rent yet, so I thought What the hell and gave them a call. I said I could be on the next train (that’s becoming a familiar phrase these days) and once again, here I find myself on a train just outside of Melbourne (western area this time) embarking on a another journey. Refreshed by the thought of accommodation provided and a job in hospitality for the next month or so, I’m not quite ready to fly home just yet! I’m not sure if I will stay the whole year, but I know I will not be flying home tomorrow!
