The drive to Seward is beautiful. We did get some blue sky and it makes such a difference. You can really see the mountains and the reflections in the mountain lakes. We stopped a couple of times along the way, as we only had about 75 miles to go. Unfortunately, by the time we got to Seward it was completely overcast again and threatening rain.
Our plan was to go on a 4.5 hour cruise into the bay to catch some sea life. There was a noon tour that included all you can eat prime rib and salmon buffet. You all know how I like a buffet.
We were not disappointed in the whale viewing, but it was sure hard to get a picture of them. Everyone was waiting for the tail to pop up, and I did get a quick one early on, but that was it. We had some porpoises "playing" with the ship. They would come up along side and then go under and come up on the other side. It was fun to watch, but really hard to capture with a camera.
Lunch was served on Fox Island, named for the people that settled there and raised foxes. Lunch was really good, and plenty for everyone they even had dessert. After we ate, we had a little time to walk around a bit and where the water met land was all smooth flat rocks, so the kids enjoyed trying to skip rocks along the water. It started raining when it was time to get back on the boat and rained most of the remainder of the ride, but if there was something to see, a lot of us still went outside to try for pictures.
We continued on our sea life quest and found harbor seals hanging out on the rocks, puffins diving for food, and other whales further out toward the open water. On the return trip it was cold and wet outside so everyone stayed inside and when Mike went to get coffee, he noticed many were dozing.
When we got back to the marina, we checked out the gift shop then headed off to find a place to park for the night. Just up the road was an Air Force Campground, reasonably priced and they had a nice little office where you could sit and watch tv, read, or get on their wifi network.
After we grabbed a bite to eat, Mike and I walked back into town so he could check out the fishing charters to see if he wanted to go fishing tomorrow. He bought a license with plans to catch a 7:00 am charter (another day we'll have to set the alarm).
I thought we were going for a 1/2 hour walk and we were gone almost 2 hours. I guess I need it, but still it's chilly out and I'm ready to relax. We'll spend about an hour at the office to use the wifi, and then we're off to bed. Has to be an early night, as it'll be an early morning.
Only drove about 85 miles today, and tomorrow we'll spend the night in same location, so no driving.
