June 22
Our trip to Munich was a long one, but we stopped in Salzburg about mid-day, which is famous for Mozart and The Sound of Music. We took a short stroll and saw the gardens where the song "Do Re Me" was filmed. We arrived at the hostel in Munich at around 5:00 p.m. As we only had one short evening in Munich we headed out to see as many sights as possible. Kaufingerstrasse is a main street full of vendors and stores which we walked down to get to Frauenkirche (the church which is the main symbol of Munich, apart from Oktoberfest). We also visited Marienplatz, the Hofgarten, and the Residenz, the other main attractions in the historical centre of the city. The Hofgarten was especially beautiful, with many fountains, topiaries, and musicians playing in the early evening. After getting a little turned around, we made our way back to our accommodations and rested for the next leg of our journey -- Italy.
