Zdravo from the breathtaking country of Slovenija!

We arrived to Ljubljana on Monday however, have been so busy with the Drolc family (our friend Blazies family) we are now just sitting down to update the blog!

For those of you who are not familiar with Slovenija, it is a small country of about two million people located to the east of Italy and northwest of Croatia. Slovenija was actually part of the former Yugoslavia so we are now in the land of the Yovanovich side. Last year I traveled to Slovenija with my friends Cecile, Kellie, Sangeeta, and Blaz. Unfortunately Mike was not able to see this country last year so I was very excited to travel here with him this year. After a 12 hour day of train travel (4 train changes) from Budapest, we arrived in Ljubljana (capital of Slovenija) and were greeted by the warm, friendly face of Heli Drolc - so comforting. For this part of our trip we are actually staying with the Drolc family in their village of Komenda. The countryside here is hard to describe. There are the Alps, plush green hills, vibrant colored flowers, and about a one hour drive away is the Adriatic sea.

Yesterday, Wednesday, we traved to the village of Piron which is on the sea. So, basically, we had lunch right on the Adriatic. The color of the water is a deep blue. The city of Piron looks a lot like a seaside village in Italy. In fact, I think it looks a lot like Positono (Sangeeta we will have to compare notes). Mike calls it "eye candy" -every step of the way there is a wonderful visual treat and much history.

As some of you know (Cec, Kellie, Sangeeta), Blazies Mom does not speak any English. So this year again we are having amazing conversations with hand gestures, broken German and Slovene. (A wonderful game of charades.) Mike seems to be adjusting quite well with this approach. He is even joining in with the gestures. Cecile, your Slovene translation book is coming in handy. In fact, Melina keeps teasing me about the "Cecile book"!

We experienced an incredible family-neighborhood barbecue (or picnic as they call it) last night. There were about 12-14 people in attendance all speaking Slovene and some broken English for the token Americans. (side note for the Slovenija gang - blueberry schapps this year is lemon schnapps and it has reared its face. Mikey had a few last night after being encouraged from the men. I escaped last night but was greeted by a few the first night.) For those not familiar with this "schnapps" it is not like schapps in the states it is more like moonshine - and we are not kidding! These people know how to have a good time!

There is so much more to share however, time is limited. We miss you all and look forward to sharing more stories soon!

Until our next blog, Adijo (bye in Slovene),
