We are home safe and sound and sleeping in our own beds. We had a wonderful road adventure of almost 10,000 miles with less than 900 miles driven on freeways. We found back roads, byways and scenic byways that got us where we wanted to go with no traffic, no stress and actually better road surfaces than some of the freeways.
Our little kitchen set up and continental breakfasts provided us with all but 12 meals. Those meals eaten out usually provided all or most of lunch the following day. The total trip of 43 days with; gas, food, lodging, helicopter ride, two train trips and entry into parks, and many museums cost us each just over $2,500.
It was a great adventure.
Dirinda and I will drive back to Colorado Springs starting June 25 to pick up her two grandchildren and my great niece. We will travel back as two old ladies with 3 children, Vaughn 13, Kristen 7 and Alyssa 5. our plan is have two DVD players in the back one for Vaughn and boy movies and one for the girls and their chick flicks. We will try to stop early so the kids can wear themselves out in the swimming pool. I imagine we will dine regularly at McDonald's. This should be a real adventure!
