Day 23
We left Bryce Canyon via Hwy. 12. It is a scenic route to Capitol Reef Canyon. It was a beautiful drive with little or no traffic.
Capitol Reef is similar to Bryce in structure. That being that it is not a true canyon but the side of a plateau with many slot canyons cutting further into the plateau. You drive the bottom of the "canyon" and look up at everything. It does not have the spectacular spires that Zion had. The name evolved as the canyon was traveled. The first white folk to see it named it Capitol Canyon because of a huge dome like rock formation. It was later likened to a reef structure and it became Capitol Reef. The park is beautiful but lacks the awsome power of the Grand Canyon and it lacks the emotional and spiritual experience of Bryce.
Tomorrow we are off to Arches National Monument and Canyon Lands.
Stay tuned,
