Hi everyone,
We have changed our itinerary.  Our original plan was to travel down the entire west coast.  However the gas prices in CA are outrageous.  We are heading for Nevada tomorrow.

Today we drove through the Redwoods and were awed by their beauty and grandure.  It was about 1955 when I was there last, 1970 for Dirinda and Jan had never seen them.  We all have stiff necks from looking up.  We stopped at the Trees of Mystery and hiked up to the gondola.  The gondola was added about 5 years ago.  The ride up the mountain affords a spectacular view all the way to the ocean.  We hiked back down to the gift shop and picked up a post card for Betty B as she does not have Internet.  Oh, we also bought some fresh made fudge.

we stopped several times along the coast to Eureka where we headed east via Hwy 299 through the coastal mountains to Redding and Corning, CA.  We stopped for lunch about half way and dined on peanut butter and jam sandwiches, water and fudge from the Trees Of Mystery.  The drive was up and down and very twisty for 147 miles.  It took just over 4 hours to make the drive and drop down into Redding.  We experienced several 8 degree down slopes which made driving an adventure.  The highlander "Lassie" is performing with ease.

We caught the I-5 freeway and drove into Corning.  Our goal was to get a tour of the olive plant but they will only accommodate parties of 10 with a 2 week notice.  Unfortunately we qualify for neither.

Stay tuned,

Shawn, Dirinda and Jan
