Today we went to a salt mine. Didn't have to do any hard labour and definitely didn’t lick the walls! (Although that was on offer!) It’s an enormous mine – there’s over 2,000 chambers connected by over 370kms of tunnels on 9 levels. We only got to see less than 2% of it and only down to the third level but it took us around 4 hours underground walking through tunnels. A lot of the chambers are enormous. There’s chapels, restaurant, souvenir shops, function rooms etc. All of its been handmade, mostly using just a pick and shovel and has been mined constantly for many hundreds of years. There’s a lot of carvings, statues and murals on walls. One chamber had some modern art in it. We were not so sure the block covered with used cigarette butts should be called artwork!

As you can see, John found chips down there in the depths of the earth! From the Eiffel Tower to deep underground, there’s chips to be found everywhere you look!

I am glad to see that John is not fazed by all the different foods on offer. He can probably say chips in 12 languages now!!!

Yes, if there's a chip to be found, he'll sniff it out! He's says it's not just about the chips (although we might beg to differ). 'There's something about savouring the finer foods (chips!!!??) in culturally diverse situations!!' (His words not mine!) Sometimes I look and think - surely he must be getting sick of eating them all the time - but apparently not yet!!
