The drive was pretty uneventful today.  It took about 6.5 hours, much of which was on two-lane highways stuck behind semi-trucks and RVs.  The scenery was beautiful and I even got a little "sun blush" on my face from the sunroof.  (I will have to remember to close the shade tomorrow!!)

CA Highway 89 took me through the Shasta National Forest.  I passed many campgrounds and trailheads.  I would love to come back this way and camp with the family some day!

Next, I turned on CA Highway 44 for the last leg of my trip through California.  The scenery was much of the same except with less trees.  Just as I was starting to bored, this wonderful little town, Susanville, CA popped up!  The speed limit slows to 35 through the old historic downtown main street.  At the end of town, there is a GIANT Wal-Mart and lots of fast food.  We wil have to remember this when we travel this way again.

Just as I entered the great state of Nevada, I saw the city of Reno, NV on my right.  We stayed in Reno a few years back on our way to the Grand Canyon.  They have a really nice Casino/Hotel/RV Resort called the Grand Sierra Resort - I highly recommend it!

Lucky for me, our dear friend, D's, parents live in Carson City, NV and graciously agreed to host me for this leg of the trip.  It is always fun to spend time with them and tonight was no exception!  D's Aunt Mary had tacos (my favorite food - how did she know?!?) cooked up and ready to go when I arrived.  I received a welcoming hug from D's Mom and a scotch on the rocks from D's Dad - now that's service!!

We spent a wonderful evening catching up on family and traveling news and playing pool.  D's Dad is really good and taught me a thing or two!  I've only played pool a handful of times in my life but it was very fun. Five games in, he had beaten me every time. In the sixth and final game, my luck changed and I actually won!!!  (In the spirit of full disclosure, please see the pictures to find out why!)

I am excited for tomorrow - a long day of driving through Nevada to Las Vegas where I will meet up with my family!

Glad to see you are having a good trip, however, I am a little concerned about the pictures that appear to be taken while you are driving! JK. I also am fascinated by the fruit border patrol at the CA state line, can't believe they still do that.

So glad to find your post for today! I've been checking every few hours to see if anything would pop up. I'm so happy that you're having such a good time traveling and staying with friends. I guess you'll be with your family on Wednesday. Then on to fun things with them . . . and not too long till you'll be with us! Love you, dear Molly!
