Where I stayed

Things just don't pan out sometimes.  My plan was to head south to a city called Tours.  They have a bunch of Chateaus and vineyards and I thought while I was in France, why not head down to and see what France is known for. I went online and booked a 2 night stay at a cozy hotel right in the middle of it all.  I made my way down to the city just fine and arrived in the pm.  As I hailed a taxi and told him to take me there, he had no idea where it was.  So we took a walk to his office and looked up the address.  We quickly discovered the hotel was out of town and there was no way to reach it without a car.  Being that there is billion train stations in Europe, maybe I went to the wrong stop.  So I made my way to the nearest hotel and found a cheap and tiny room.  The room is a virtual broom closet.  It's probably 10x5 ft.  And has some of the best 1950's Deco wallpaper I have ever seen.  I guess I should be more careful next time when booking a hotel.  Just because they say it is in the city, doesn't mean it.

Not a bad little town, but not too many vineyards here.  Though I may rent a bike and go for a ride.

I rented a bike yesterday and headed out in search of vineyards and Chateaus.  It was a perfect day and I found a good bike path that followed the Loire River.  Once I get out of the city it became apparent that all I could find was the same old stuff back home.  Like corn and wheat.  But it was "French" corn and wheat so I guess it made it cooler.  I actually got lucky and stumbled upon a Chateau in the distance.  The name was Chateau de Villandry.  The original one was built almost 1,000 years ago but was rebuilt several times over the years.  The nearest addition was like 300 years old.  It did have some awesome gardens all along the side and back of the place.  Comeplete with a not-so-hard maze which was completed in a record time of 6 seconds by me.

On my train back to Paris I managed to see an ever bigger Chateau in the distance.  So it wasn't a total lose on my idea for vineyards and Chateaus.
