Where I stayed
Manta Cafe Bungalow
After another morning of banana pancakes we decide to spend another day in Gili doing a walking tour of the tiny island. We book our transport to our next destination, Ubud back in Bali. We than head north along the beach stopping to swim, snorkel, snack, and drink Bintang as needed. The north of the island is nothing like the main strip where we've been staying. It's fairly deserted except the occasional "high end" bungalows we come across. It's kind of nice but I think the heat makes the walk into town a little abusive but I haven't heard a chicken yet.
We find a nice area with some shaded chairs and hammocks. We order a little lunch and some not so cold beer. Jason heads into the water with his snorkel and is soon surrounded by 6 local kids swimming along. They help him find his way to some nice snorkeling and he seems pleased with his venture despite his eyes making one of the boys cry.
We head back into town to shower but the electricity is out again. The power goes out 3 or 4 times a day. After everyone gets their act together we meet for beer and Indian food for dinner. A few more drinks and we head to bed early to prepare for another travel day.
Travelers note: You may want to ask if the place you're staying with if they have a generator. Many of them do and will run them at night so you AC or fan doesn't poop out during the many power outages and leave you sweating in the dark.
