So I started to make a few notes as to what we got up to today and I realised I got my days muddled and some of the things we did yesterday, we actually did today. Meh!  We had lunch at a place down a side street in Rothenburg called 'Rock Cafe'.  They had a similar theme to the popular ‘Hard Rock Cafe’.  Jess and Jordan were on skyped so we had lunch with them on loudspeaker.   It felt like they were there in real life!

After lunch we joined a tour group of Rothenburg.  The tour guy was great.  I recon he was a 40 year old virgin who still lived at home with his mum and was looking for a chick to settle down with.  He told us some interesting history about Rothenburg and showed us a church that is half church and half guard tower.  He also told us that if you had one different German beer each day, it would take you 17 years to get through them all.  That’s a lot of beer...but a lot of great beer...Ben you up for the challenge with us?!  Back in the days they had a ‘watchman’ that would roam the streets at night.  His job was to watch over Rothenburg to make sure no fires broke out.  Back in the days, they used fire for heating and for light so house fires were common and because the houses were built close to each other they would spread quite quickly.    All the watchmans lost their job in 1920 when they went over to electricity.  Quite a few of the shops in Rothenburg still contain a little logo above the shop door to advertise what they sold.  For example a Pretzel would indicate a bakery...mmmm pretzels!  The reason for these logos was because people were illiterate.  Hec...lets not teach the dumb, lets just put pictures up...one way to solve the problem!

After the tour we went to the ‘Crime, Punishment & Torture Museum’.  This museum was quite interesting but I’m so grateful that I didn’t live in that era!  We read some pretty funny things – the aim back then was to make an example of a person and to humiliate them.  If you were caught cheating, you would be forced to walk the streets in a ‘Shame Mask’.  Or if 2 women were having a scrag fight, they would be clamped together until they sorted out the disagreement.  The chastity belt; designed to prevent females being raped or to be worn by a married lady when her husband would go away.  This way it was impossible for her cheat on him when he was away!  No trust back in those days!  We did a ‘Watchmans Tour’ at 8pm which was overrated but the town looked even more gorgeous at night.  Over 100 ppl turned up to the tour!  It was quite amusing watching 100 ppl following one tour guide!
