Weather forecast for today was worse than back home. Adelaide: 19 and Sunny. Munich: 14 and rain! We didn't rush in, but spent the morning in the van and finally headed into Marienplatz for a stroll. Checked out the Apple store which was packed. It looked like most were either playing games on the iPhones and iPads or charging their device on the docking stations.

Had lunch at the Augustiner am Platzl, delicious Pork Roast for Kel, and absolutely scrumptious Pork Knuckle with the best crackling. And a beer of course, just half a litre.

Headed on the Metro to BMW for our tour. The Olympic village is nearby, but we didn’t have time to look and the weather was not appropriate. The first thing we saw was the massive BMW office headquarters – see the picture. The BMW area contains this building, the Munich Factory, and an impressive interactive showroom where people can also collect their newly delivered vehicles. The Munich factory has quite a small foot print, and as such they work on about 4-5 different levels to obtain the required space. The tour started with the body shop where the first panels are assembled together. This is done by hundreds of robots, with the only human interaction being placing parts into the machines. I think even Kel thought the robot s were cool – it was quite impressive to walk into the factory, and see sooooo many robots, with say 5-6 robots working together on the same task. We also saw the painting processes. BMW use 4 different colour undercoats, so if a car is scratched the scratch is a similar colour to the surface paint and less noticeable. Also saw several of the assembly lines where parts are installed into the vehicle. The cycle time is 1 minute, meaning a new BMW rolls off the end of the line every minute. Not a bad effort!  Pity we werent allowed to take pics of the inside though.
