We're not hikers, as most people who visit Carmel would be able to tell by the title of this entry alone.  We love to do short hikes, but we just aren't in the physical shape to do so and health problems prevent us from doing more than a mild hike.

But, there is no way we were going to let that keep us from enjoying Carmel.

This village very much has a European feel.  Between the cute cottages straight out of French, German, and English fairy tales, the dining options, and the world class galleries, you really feel like you're in fairy tale place that has been trapped in time. It's captured a piece of peace, whose locals are (as a whole) laid back and friendly, and which generates a very relaxed atmosphere.  Walking is the way to go in this town, if you're staying in the central blocks.  Parking is not the easiest thing to do, so if you're within, say, a mile of where you want to go?  Walk.

Besides, the flowers, the fresh air, and the charm make it worth the walk.

We learned all of this our first trip.  So we didn't even try to give up our parking spot at the hotel just so we could go eat at the Tuck Box.  This was one of our favorite places to eat last time, and it not only didn't disappoint, it surpassed our memory.  Mom had the tuna salad salad, I had their Tuesday special, the cottage pie.  And the food was fantastic.

After eating, we went into the shop right next to the Tuck Box, the aptly named "A Great Place".  Again, this was one of our favorite shops from last time, and we really enjoyed the whimsey once again.  And *this* time, there was a really good book on the fairy tale cottages.

The rest of the time we were out was spent exploring galleries and shops between the Tuck Box and the hotel.  We also stopped to see several little gardens along the way.

I did take our hiking stick, and was glad about it a few times.  We may have only walked a mile and a half at max, but with chronic fatigue *and* being out of shape?  It was a big success for me.  And the stick made the difference several times, allowing me to keep my balance and spread out the weight.

I also got to try out my new camera.  It's not a full replacement for my Canon Rebel that died after the last trip (cry!), just a little Panasonic Lumix, but it is perfect for my needs for the moment.  The light wasn't good for photos today (cloudy and cold), but sometimes that actually works better for some of the flowers.

See what you think. :)
