Whew! What a day, today was one of the busiest, messiest days any of us have had in a long time; however, it was extremely fun! Right after breakfast we headed over to begin our servant work at the Big CIty Park here in the heart of New Orleans. After work we spend the remainder of the day together walking around downtown New Orleans and browsing through some shops. It was a great day of group bonding and muscle building.
We got our directions at breakfast and headed out to the Big City Park in the heart of New Orleans to find a man named Jim; however, we didn't have an address, so we were like the blind leading the blind. So after driving around for about 15 minutes we saw a volunteer truck and turned into a beautiful spot near a lake. We were told that Jim would be there soon, so we spent about another 15 minutes enjoying ourselves on the dock (including Pastor Rockey trying to push Rachel off the dock) until Jim and the other groups showed up. Jim sent us to an area that needed planting-a round about that was located just outside downtown-but before we went there, another group that was coming in to work had some people from Alaska, and low and behold we meet our cousin Tim Rockey! That beginning the day our group of about 20 people went around the Big City Park planting plants, replanting plants, and pulling weeds. About 3 o'clock we came back to Camp Restore and took showers (we were extremely dirty) and then headed out to go siteseeing.
We didn't know where we wanted to go, so we looked through the GPS and decided to head over to St. Louis Cathedral; however en route the GPS took us across Bourbon Street Elizabeth saw someone she and Pastor Rockey knew from Tennessee so Elizabeth and Rachel were told by Pastor Rockey to get out of the car and go chase him down. So out we went running down Bourbon St screaming "Mr. Norby!" and finally we got his attention and then met back up at the car. After that fun encounter we continued to the cathedral and we came across a Cafe Pastor Rockey and Martha had been to called Cafe Du Monde and had beignets. After our snack we decided to walk around the block watching the street performers and going into some of the shops. We weren't able to go into the Cathedral because of a wedding, but we had fun walking around the square. We then went back to Camp Restore for dinner. For dinner we had homemade Jumbalaya (delicious!) and then did our Bible study and then headed to a worship open to the whole camp. Right now at Camp there are over 300 people and we had an amazing time of worship and study.
Tomorrow we're off to do some work in homes ruined by hurricanes and then after we clean up we're heading over to our hotel, The Sheraton, and will check into the National Youth Gathering. We then will have the rest of the day and Saturday morning into early afternoon to ourselves and then Saturday afternoon the NYG opens with the mass event! Thanks to everyone again for all the support and prayers.

God's Blessings,
Rachel Rockey
Elizabeth Rockey
Ava Hovis
James Rockey

PS
We've now made it possible to comment on pictures and we may not have internet at the hotel, but we will write a blog everyday and may have to update multiple blogs at one time, hopefully, we'll be able to post everyday! Lots of Love, Us

Great job on the blog, Rachel. You are at the Camp sooner & longer than I thought you'd be. Once again, the 3,000 meeting at the LCMS convention prayed for you today. Hope you are able to get on the Internet at the hotel as it is great getting updates from you. I loved that t-shrt of yours on the sub: we can fix it. I showed it to the pastors sitting next to me and told them 'this is our now - and our future in the church. One especially, who is going through some tough emotions right now (as am I) thought it was great. This morning, our Fla Ga Dist President encouraged us eith Heb. 12:2 fix your eyes on Jesus. Let these words guide us. Lve you all! Lois Schaefer

Oh how you made my mouth water with the pictures of the beignets! And although I'm sure you worked hard, you still looked full of energy. Working in the name of our Lord isn't really work, is it? Seems like He carries us through as He continues to do every day. May He bless you as you continue to bless all those you serve. Love n'hugs....Judy Mtchell

I've had the privilege, as have others, of joining you for your nightly mass events. Wow, President Gerry and First Lady Terri Kieschnick had a powerful word of encoruagement last night. And Sunday night, that young mother whose teen daughter went to be with the Lord and the mom's witness, amazing! I'm energized in my spirit to see the 23,000 celebrating and serving teens of the LCMS! You go, gals - and Pastor.
