On the next morning I asked to change rooms. They gave me another one, not so distant this time.
I took a Tuk Tuk to Palan beach (North of Rapon beach) and spend some time there. The weather was amazing and I've laid under a tree shade by the sea. I've had some coconut water and massage there - what a life!
From there I walked to a restaurant by the end of the beach (recommendation from my travel guide book), on a cliff with a beautiful view. The food was also excellent.
On my way out two girls on a motorcycle asked me some weird questions, my age and country of residence. They asked me to participate on promotion. I had to scratch a piece of paper that would reveal what I could get... one of them was a hat the other was three stars and they all got really excited about that - They wanted to go with me to get the prize - Immediately I knew what this was about - TIMESHARING! Since one of my new clients might be a timesharing company I've decided to play along and see if I could learn something. They took me on their small motorcycle to the main office (three people on a small motorcycle is something common here, but still don't feel quite right). From there on a nice car they took me to another office where I've seated with an English guy for about an hour with him explaining how the thing work. The guy was very nice and gave me some tips and some unsolicited information about his personal life. At some point (about 45 minutes into the explanation) I told him that it was not working, the deal seem really good but I couldn't concentrate on anything being inside an office on a beautiful day on my vacations - no deal would be good enough to give away my vacation time that way. Why they don't do this by the beach with a nice masseur rubbing your body, I bet it would tremendously increase their closing rates. Anyway, in the end they gave me a voucher for a week on their 5 star hotels in Thailand. Maybe I should stay a little longer now...
Once back to my hotel I went for a change of clothes. Once I took my shirt off I panicked ... my rest under the trees earlier had burned my whole chest and belly...it was all glowing red...and the worst part, it had a very defined white hand mark on my belly (I guess I slept with one hand there). Damn - there it goes my vacation!
Immediately I remembered a place that I saw yesterday where they do massages and burning treatment. I went there, it's on the back of a small convenient shop. They asked me to undress and lay over a bed covered on plastic wrap. They first washed me with cold water and later rubbed a mixture all over my body. After that they rolled the plastic wrap. I suddenly became a big sushi roll. I stayed like that for about an hour while the masseuse massaged my face and body. Once they removed the plastic the redness was almost gone. I could barely see the white hand now. They rubbed some aloe lotion and another hydrating cream afterwards. Vacation saved!
