Took a quick ferry & two buses from Istanbul to Bursa this morning. Staying along the main road in this town of approximately 1 million under the shadow of ULUDAG (2543m). The town is known for its natural hot springs...and all of you who know me, know that is a good thing!!
Spend the morning walking through the silk market another thing that is famous here. Took a taxi cab to Cerkirge Mineral Baths for a traditional Turkish bath scrub and massage. The hamam is in a historic building and the communal steam/hot bath room is lined with the most beautiful marble.
We had tea in the evening with some of the musicians warming up for the Dervish show later. We were all crunched into a lower level room with the musicians just jamming away and dancing...at times with us and other times just alone. The show itself happens every night and its really not a show but a religious experience...free to watch in a stunning two level building. Men downstairs and women upstairs. The guys whirl which is there way of worship for about 15 - 20 minutes it seemed. They go into a trancelike state and then become very peaceful when it is over.
