Left Mt. Sinai early am to travel via van to Nuwieba on the Red Sea.  Our drive took us through multiple security checkpoints along the road.  Soldiers with guns, diversions placed in the road so that you had to move slowly around to get through.  We left Mt. Sinai with a police officer in our van.  We were told that he was to accompany us, no choice apparently due to the three Americans on the tour.  Things seem to happen without any real official explanation.  That's just the way it is and then it happens.  They tried to get Intrepid to pay for the guy but our leader rightly refused.  The scenery on the drive continued to be gorgeous.  Mostly dramatic desert mountains, cliffs and hills shaped by the elements in varying shades of tan and brown.  The bright, clear blue of the Red Sea revealing itself as we made our way towards Nuwieba.  Stopped in a 'supermarket', term used loosly here.  Really a small shop that sold food and such.  Bought some Stella egyptian beer from the duty free shop across the street and away we went towards our beach camp 'resort'.  We each had our own grass/wood huts on the beach...about 10 - 30 feet to the water.  Settled in, and went snorkeling later.  Had to swim over a shallow coral area with lots of scary looking black spiky sea urchins lurking below but then made it over the shelf and the views were great.  Lots of lion fish, saw an eel, lots of brightly colored fish and coral.  It was the best snorkeling I have ever done.  Water so clear and calm.  In the evening we had a traditional Bedouin dinner on the beach, then lots of zzzzzzz's!
