I was lucky enough to catch up with my friend Kristine, who i met 4 years ago in Turkey where we hung oot for a week or so.  She was ever so kind to take me in, show me around..i really do love the world of traveling, the people i meet and the humanity.  So it didn't matter that i showed up at her office after all this time, we had a great time.

We went to the Sky Tower and Casino the first night where her boyfriend was the presenter which was quite amusing and with just walking in the casino door, we were eligible to win $10000 but bf didn't draw our numbers..how rude.

The one day i did my own thing and went to Rangitoto Island, only 25mins ferry from the city.  It's an extinct volcano (now an island), but the newest of extinct volcanoes (auckland has 60 or so in the area) with it being only 700 years old.  I had a lovely day...hiked to the top with a view to die for of auckland and the surrounding islands, gorgeous blue water.  Then hiked around different trails on the island.  There is nothing on the island, except a few trails, few caves, lots of old lava, trees and shrubs that have slowly sprouted up over the years and a few old huts, used in war days.

I went to the museum the other day which was massive.  Then our evenings were spent going for drinks, to the comedy club, to dinner, to a local theatre (they got free tickets)...its was opening night and lots of free drinks, yay!  It was nice to meet a few new people as well and  to be in a social situation as im not used to that, being the traveling wanderer i am.

There were a few debacles however, that we can now laugh at...Kris got the window of her car smashed in, while it was parked so no one was hurt.  A different time we found her car battery was dead when we went back to the carpark, a man at a nearby towing service was nice enough to help us oot and did just in time.  Just as the car was started these hoodlums came running down the steps, 2 guys chasing another, the guy being chased jumped into the man's (who helped us) car as the guys pounded on his window and the man drove away with the dude.  We then very quickly got into Kris car, locked the doors and drove away.  It was only 5 mins earlier i was sitting alone in the car, in the dark, dead battery, doors wide open waiting for Kris, no one around...so it really did work oot...close call.  Oh then we got locked in Kris' house cuz her bro took her car/house keys by accident..haha.  It does seem odd that all three debacles had something to do with her car...hmmmmm.

And that's that in New Zealand unfortunately.  I really didnt' have nearly enough time to travel thorougly through both islands...there is just too much to see and do.  I think i do well with the time i had though..and it's just more reason to know that i will be back someday.  Camping with a campercan in their summer, sometime i reckon will be next... til then...im loving New Zealand and loved my time here.
