What a day!  I trekked a mofo glacier by the same name as the wee town that im staying in, Franz Josef.  It was obviously an organized trek as im no expert.  It was truly magnificent!

This is a first for me...being on any sort of glacier and it blew me away.  Im gonna hopefully let the pictures do most of the talking. The glacier is situated in a valley stuck between two mountains, it's aboot 1km wide.  It was aboot an hour hike to get to the bottom of the glacier then another hour of steep incline on rock, gravel (which was hiding the glacier) before we really got to the good stuff, the pure white ice of the glacier, (sometimes blue when the sun shone on it) and was able to see the pure size and magnitude of it.  We had 6 hrs on the actual glacier, hiking, trekking, slipping through crevasses, up, down around the ice.  The guide who has been doing it for 3 years says there are still parts she hadn't ventured to so it truly is always different...good to keep it fresh.  I just loved walking in my crampons (ice picky things that go on shoes) along the ice, squeezing through holes, wee caves, crevasses and just taking in the pure beauty of it all.  And it only lightly rained for like an hour which is unheard of.  It always rains here. The sun was shining bright most of the day, so we were very fortuante.

I arrived back in town, to find a spectacular rainbow hanging over the town and the mountains.  It have honestly never seen any rainbow like it, it was huge.  It went from the ground on one side, way up to the top of the mountains then back to the ground on the other side, it was soo bright too!  Im sure there was a pot of gold at the end of this one.  It was absolutely gorgeous to witness. It made me soo happy, a perfect end to a absolutely lovely day.  I was grinning from ear to ear..

And day two in Franz admist the moutains and hills brought quite bit of rain.  I didn't plan on doing too much.  I wanted a day to gather myself, lay low as my go-go schedule was catching up with me and i thought what a great place to do so...where i feel relaxed and comfortable, in the hostel and the lovely village.  The rain was also a good excuse as well...so i just puttered aboot most of the day, doing things that needed to be done (yes i still have ''things to do" when traveling just different things perhaps) and chilling, enjoying it all very much so..i mean i am here to relax as well.  I did go for a 2 hr walk up to a viewpoint.  There are loads of independent walks right close by, ranging from whole day to half hour walks.  It was really nice to be walking alone along the river then amongst nature and woods, with no one else in sight, just taking it in.  It started  to piss down on my return but i still enjoyed, nice to stroll in the rain sometimes, i mean i wont melt.  I couldn't see much from the view as there were clouds everywhere but still an enjoyable walk.  I feel like i exerted just enough energy today and will go back to chilling like a villain as i think i have earned it.

There was a earthquake here as some of you may have heard (as i got couple reverse SOS emails)..a 7.8!  Everything is fully in tact here, myself and the town, barely a scratch, not even a scratch actually.  I managed to sleep right through it and didnt feel a thing.  It's bizarre how in dorm rooms (gotta love them) zoaring, rustling, talking wakes me but earthquake, nope.  Apparently its quite common to get earthquakes here in NZ (usllay not 7.8 though) and in Franz we are right where 2 plates meet.  But the infrastructure is quite compatibile with no high buildings really, no bigass cities...so there usually isn't much damage.  So it 's all good in da hood...i am disappointed, however, that i missed it.

The next day i have a long bus ride ahead of me and quite a bit of traveling to do in the next few days..i think anyways as my plans can always change.  So it may be a quiet few days, we shall see...please hold.
