So i left paradise for a party, well so i thought. I took the 2hr boat ride to Ko Phangan with Jeremy, the french guy and we quickly found accomodation right on the beach in yet another bungalow. The only reason i decided to come to this island was because of the massive Full Moon party that is world-renowned well to some...happens every month on the full moon obviously. So since i happened to be in the area at the right time, i figured i'd check it out.

The island is bigger than my paradise and the beaches and water isn't comparable but still lovely of course. At one end of the island is the town Hat Rind (i think) where there's bar after bar on the beach...and just stands with vendors selling buckets (containing a mickey of vodka or whiskey whichever you choose and 2 mixers, like a can of coke and red bull, etc). So the night before the big party Jeremy and i checked out the beach bars and he coaxed me into staying out til like 5am, you know how it goes, just one more drink (or bucket in this case). It was funny to see all the people just hanging out on the beach, really drunk of course and they had a wicked fire show with Poi and stick...that's what mesmerized me most. Partying just doesn''t do it for me anymore...my body doesn't react with alcohol like it used to...it doesn't produce an enjoyable feeling, i just get sleepy...i know i'm old!

Anyways so the next night is the big party...only got like 3 hrs sleep the ngiht before cuz it's impossible to sleep in in Asia with all the noise (ie. roosters) and i really wasn't up for going to this Full Moon Party but really felt the obligation since i was there afterall...but at crunch time at like 11pm when everyone was leaving the bungalows, i bailed and said i wasn't going...haha! I just really wanted to go to bed..think i was literally the only tourist that came to the island and didn't go to this party (aboot 8000 peeps partying on the beach and one CDN in bed). I felt like rubbish and a party pooper but i really had not desire to go...in the end i did enjoy my good nights sleep and was able to have a nice day the next day. I rented a motorbike and scooted around to the another side of the island, went swimming. It is soooo expensive on the islands as well...well for Thai standards and mine as im used to good ól Cambodia...but it's inevitable as it is so touristy and beautiful (have i mentioned that).

One night in my bungalow, i was in the loo and picked up the bucket to fill it up (which you use to manually flush the toilet) and found a toad type turtle thing underneath it..which i didn't enjoy..it was ugly and scary! I had moved the bucket before and it was not there..how did it get there? i didn't want to know...so i quickly put the bucket back down over top of it..pretending it wasn't there and never moved the bucket again. I have gotta used to the creepy crawlies somewhat that you found everywhere in the tropical climates but i'll never particularly enjoy them - beetles, frogs, mosquitoes, crickets, ants, lizards and many more that i don't what to see. Geckos are everywhere, crawling on walls, ceilings...i got used to that very quickly as it was like that in the posh house in Malawi and from then on. So in that regard i really miss cold weather and no strange creatures to surprise me...you can't have everything..can ya?!

So the night of my motorbiking day..i caught an 6 hr overnight boat to the mainland. There was one big room on the top floor of the relatively small boat with 2 rows of mattresses layed from one end to another (like 2 veryyy long beds) that must have slept maybe 40 peeps on each. I was happy with this as i expected maybe a wooden bench to sleep on...many of the other tourists that just go to Thailand for the islands were complaining fiercely at the sleeping situation...don't know how for the price...i ignored them. And i actually fell asleep surprisingly...too bad the boat arrived at 430am at the pier, better than no sleep tho. Then i proceeded to a agency to wait a few hours for a bus to take me to the west coast of Thailand, the Andaman Sea....hoping that more paradise awaits me...
