We left the Meteor Crater in AZ Tuesday afternoon and a little more than 24 hrs later pulled into New Orleans. The drive was spectacular and there is nothing like getting to see a sunset in AZ behind the mountains and watching the colors reflected off of the clouds on the other side of the sky. Then later seeing the sunrise on a crisp clear morning in TX. John took part of the middle of the night shift but since sleep was not coming easy I let him doze as much as possible. We initially planned in staying in Lake Charles, but after getting caught in traffic and not being very impressed by the area we pushed on to New Orleans to allow another full day there.

When we finally arrived in New Orleans the KOA seemed to be almost all RV oriented as there was almost no grass so we checked out Bayou Segnett State Park which was completely under construction. Since it was after hours and there was no one to ask we almost gave up but finally decided to drive through the construction area (in pitch blackness) and voila we found the campground surrounded by lush greenness.

Thursday morning we slept in and finally made it to the French Quarter for a late lunch. There was lots of activity everywhere and somehow I got sucked into a magic act which was hilarious and resulted in me keeping a 2 of spades with my name written on it. We later found out that there is a free music festival going on this whole weekend. We spent the remainder of the day just walking around and checking out music...perfect timing! Most bands included some sort of brass instruments. There is also a Zydeco stage and world music stage which are giving occasional free dance lessons.

Right now John and I are sitting in a great breakfast place (the Oak Street Cafe) listening to a piano player. I love how musically oriented this city is! After this we plan to take the trolley to check out some other areas of town and will end up at the music festival tonight and part of tomorrow before heading out.
