Around 3:30 this morning John pulled off in a picnic area and we decided to get a few hours of shut-eye. To make sure we didn't miss the sunrise we set an alarm and got a few hours sleep. Eventually the cool morning started creeping in and we used towels for blankets as we were too sleepy to get the blanket or sleeping bags out of the trunk. I even forgot to take my seatbelt off.
The sunrise was amazing over a vast expanse of barren land surrounded by nothing but cool crisp morning. Breakfast was calling.
Chaos Cafe was our next stop. This is a unique and delicious restaurant with lots of character. The walls were corrugated steel with fun writing in occasional places and the food was amazing. I got an egg, brisket, jalapeno, salsa dish (with tortillas) and John got huevos con chorizo. I would definitely suggest stopping by here if you ever drive through Artesia!
