This morning we woke up to the sounds of our camping neighbors playing guitar. It was like a personalized alarm clock. Later we had an extremely reasonably priced breakfast and enjoyed conversation with a couple from upstate NY on a RV trip. That's one of the nice things about the KOA, everyone's friendly and a travel/camp or RV trip tends to be a different pace than one spent at hotels. We even met a couple of guys from Indianapolis last night when we saw 3 oddly blinking stationary lights in the sky. Luckily they had a camera/tripod and photographed it to find out it was a blimp.

This was followed by some texted birthday wishes...I had forgotten today was my birthday. Brian and Ro then called to wish me happy birthday. Ro sang the whole song and we talked for a while which really made my day. I love that he is now old enough to have a good phone conversation. It was my turn next to call mom and sing to her.

Afterwards John and I broke down camp and headed into Key West since our snorkling trip was cancelled due to bad visibility. We decided to take an afternoon sailing trip on the Appledore which was amazing! Today they did an annual civil war reenactment and I was glad to hear we were part of the union troops which won (in case anyone was wondering). John and I spent a while talking to 2 of the crew hands and are interested in taking a class to learn it. Our boat was old school and none of the sail raising was automated. They were really cool guys and seemed to be at a similar place in life as us. One was a middle school teacher from Colorado who is just taking some time off and the other used to design jet engines but wanted to get out from behind a desk. We were even offered a place to sleep tonight yet with the timing tomorrow we need to be closer to Miami than Key West tonight. Maybe next time.

This was a great way to spend my birthday!
