One of the sites along the way are the Elephant seals, which Tracy has seen before. It was new to me and I found it hilarious for some unknown reason. Maybe the mix of the sounds they made and their fiesty fighting. I could not help but wonder how early hunters would have felt about crowning the top of a mountain and seeing the mass of blubbery food. We took some pictures and videos we'll post when we get the computer connected. We switched off driving soon after that and I got the windy stretch of Route 1 toward Big Sur and Monterey. The cliffs dropped off straight down to ocean and again the view was magestic. After route 1 we were still a bit of distance from our destination, my sister Leah's place, so we stopped for dinner in Monterey. We got ushered into one of the seafood restaurants we had looked up in the AAA book, Dominics, by the usher outside. We were by far under-dressed and, with the drive, the most raggedy patrons. It was right on Fisherman's Warf with a view of all the boats and a seal was swimming in the water below as well. Our waiter seemed pleasant at first but as dinner continued Tracy and I sensed he may have thought we didn't belong. Tracy got scallops and I ordered sole both which came with veggies and cauliflower mash-potatoes. I asked the waiter to recommend a wine (I thought that was part of his job) but when he brought the wine he gave me a wink. While Tracy and I discussed what the underlying message of the wink was he came around to fill our water glasses.  After filling Tracy's water (he got the glass from her left side), he made an exaggerated motion in front of her to put her glass on her right side.Literally in front of her nose.  We ruled out the possibility of a flirt and realized he had just given Tracy a silent etiquette lesson.  I don't know how this translates to you the reader, but it was super funny to us.
