Where I stayed

Before even arriving in Caracas I was given a flavour of what to expect, I sat on the plane next to a diplomat from Isreal who worked in the Embassy in Caracas. He advised me to take off all my jewellery before leaving the airport and that the area in which I was staying was not a safe area, all this before I had even landed. I took a taxi from the airport to my hotel, the outskirts of the city were very poor and the rest was concrete and high rise buildings. The Hotel Royal where I was staying appeared to be in the middle of a market and I was not able to find anything regal about it, there was an establishment offering Sauna and Massage next door but I didnīt think it was a health Spa! I decided to explore within one block of the hotel. I had some lunch in a bar nearby and whilst eating my lunch I found what appeared to be a pink worm in it, I was releaved to find in was an octopus leg (not what I ordered though) Later that day I met with some others in my group and we decided to take the cable car to the top of the mountain that overlooked Caracas (according to the guide book, the only tourist attraction in Caracas worth visiting) The top of the mountain was 2,250mtrs and the views to the carribean on one side and Caracas on the other were great.
On returning to the hotel we met with the rest of the group (6 Brits, 2 Canadian, 1 Aussie, 1 New Zealander and 2 Americans) Two of the English lads had just been kidnapped and robbed at gunpoint by a taxi driver from the airport, they had had all their money taken and some travellers cheques, understandably they were very shaken and it made us all want to leave Caracas as quickly as possible. Our guide Lenin is from Equador and he looks exactly like a South American Leo Sayer, he is great and was able to help the English lads sort their police report out before we left the city. As they say, things can only get better!

CAUTION in CARACAS!!!!
Oh my God!

So glad to hear that you're having an adventurous time. I take it you ordered a veggie burger, if not, may I suggest that you undertake a POLSA search of everything you are likely to put in your mouth prior to actually doing so.

Stay safe Tracy. Love Chelle.
