Sorry for the absence, been really tired & lazy..... but we're back!!
A lot to catch up on, starting with the British Club Bunco morning, no, I didn't know what it was until that day, it's a dice game - it was to raise money for charity & was lots of fun at the Capital Club.
I had my 3rd Internations ladies evening later that week, at the posh LAN club where we went for one of the main events, 20 had registered & 12 turned up, a couple of new people too which was nice. A good fun evening, sat chatting at first then dancing & singing when the band came on. I escaped at midnight, not wanting to disapper first being the host, but glad I did as the others were there until 2am!
Andy had been energetic that week & played squash, and bowling, then on the Wednesday evening had a late appointment over dinner. He played Badminton this week too, so is beating me in the fitness stakes at the moment!!
The Friday was Andy's Internations boys night out - about 20 of them went Go Karting, which we tested out the week before. They all had a couple of rounds each during the evening after going to 'Big Pizza' to stock up, all you can eat pizza, pasta, salad, free flow beer etc. for just under a fiver! Andy came overall 4th in the Karting competition & had a great time. After party at Spark nightclub, again on the guest list! A good night had by all.
I meanwhile started off very relaxed, and used the voucher for the massage I'd won in a competition. It was a 75 minute oil massage by two therapists, in tandem with each other, very relaxing & enjoyable. Worth about 75 pounds so a real treat. After that was the first leaving party, our friend Luisa from Colombia had been in China for several years, but only a few months in Beijing, but needs to go back to Colombia for work sadly, she's really good fun & it hit us how our group of friends will change frequently due to people coming & going, so that was weird
A lazy Saturday popping out for coffee, then getting ready for the white collar boxing evening, which we'd won tickets for in a magazine, worth 90 pounds each. It was a group of ex-pats who volunteered to train to box, and all trained together for the last 3 months in preperation for the fight. It was a fantastic evening, cocktail reception at 7pm followed by a very posh 4 course gala dinner whilst watching the fights. 8 fights in total, 2 were women, the other 6 fights men, and the standard got better as the evening went on. They had an auction & a raffle during the evening too, as you sat & ate your food & enjoyed the free flow wine. Very entertaning, we knew one of the boxers, Karl who is the manager of our local Irish bar, Paddy's, so we cheered him on - and he won. It was a great atmosphere. The evening finished around 11pm, and the after party was at Spark again so we went there for an hour or so before retiring. I decided whilst watching the boxing that I would quite like to give it a go next time, more so for the training more than anything else, and something to kick start my fitness again
Sunday we joined our friend Luisa & a group of friends for brunch before she set off for the airport to fly home. It was a Persian meal, very nice, then headed for a few beers after as it was a no alcohol restaurant. So another chilled out Sunday, and our first friend gone... :(
Last Monday I had an appointment with a new client at a school, unfortunately after travelling half an hour there, and waiting for an hour, I found out that she had gone sick but forgotten to let me know.... then another hour on the subway home in rush hour! It happens, Andy has turned up to a couple too & people have had to cancel last minute, just one of those things. Scheduled another appointment on Monday thought. Andy has had a couple of appointments too recently which have gone well.
Tuesday I had the day off to go to the hot springs with the British Club ladies. About 24 of us for the day, and about a 45 minute drive out of town, a lovely relaxing day at a fab place, started outside in various 'flavoured' hot tubs, red wine, chocolate, lavender, they didn't really smell of anything to be fair, so I think they were just coloured water
He went bowling in the evening, whilst I met a friend Megan for dinner, American, and a new friend called Maureen from Canada, who's been living in Taipei for some years, and moved here recently. Had a lovely evening chatting over dinner, and a good old girlie gossip!.
Wednesday it was a friends birthday, Semih from Turkey, so his girlfriend arranged for a big group of us to meet at the Muslim restaurant, Red Rose. The usual good food, plenty of beer, and a big cake, dancing to the band, and the belly dancers! And Semih eating a long whole noodle in one go whilst stood on his chair - tradition apparantley and sign of a long life!! The plan was to go to KTV (Karaoke television) afterwards, we weren't going to go, but T who is the manager from Spark was at dinner with us, and before we knew it he'd called the club and arranged for us to have one of the private KTV rooms for the rest of the evening, plus it was ladies night so free drinks for us girls too!
A nice quiet night in on Thursday watching a film, and a good old catch up with Colleen, much needed & much overdue!! Had a bit of a homesick wobble this week, we've been here 6 months today, so think we've entered another stage really, and with Christmas coming up it feels very far from home. Missing everyone lots, and have had a few tears, but to be expected I guess. Still loving it here but sometimes it's tough.
Last night was the Internations party at a mexican place nearby, a great night catching up with lots of people, and Andy & a few of the boys went off early to a club for a free drinks reception.
Cold but sunny day today, so we wrapped up warm & went back to the 798 Art District to explore, wandered around a few of the galleries, had some lunch, and caught the bus back which drops us right outside the door. Chilling out now before bowling tonight.
Ok, that's us done for now - so catch up again soon!
