Sadly NOT at the Four Seasons hotel

So, back down to our apartment with a bump after our fab weekend at the Four Seasons. Sadly we didn't win the prize for a night in the presedential suite at the Hilton, but we did manage to blag free tickets to the food & wine festival!! It's not what you know in this place....... but who you know!!!

Off I went all suited & booted to one of the International schools on Tuesday for an appointment which went well, seeing him again this week, and a different teacher tomorrow. Andy has a couple more meetings lined up as well, and a strong referal from the client he signed last week - so a great lead already and hopefully more to come. It's definitely all starting to happen, and the hard work paying off.

Tuesday morning was the British Club meeting again, this time is was one of the Spa's attending to give a presentation & free mini manicures & massages which was nice, and plenty of time to chat to people too, and of course drink coffee & eat cake.

Bowling for Andy Tuesday night, after bowling he then got invited by one of the team to his club with a few others, then for some food (well, I wouldn't actually call it food, it wa rabbit & frog, bleuh.....), but he enjoyed it!! I went shopping, wanting simple things in life, black shoes & black trousers, no - not that easy..... nowhere had what I wanted in my size, and no normal trousers to be found. I did however find a lovely winter coat. The majority of coats in the shops at the moment are 'down' coats, full of warm feathers, duck or goose down etc. Rumour has it for a time at some of the market stalls, they were selling knock off North Face jackets stuffed with, no - not goose or duck down, but torn up pampers nappies....... hmmmmm nice!!!! Anyway, I fell in love with one in Mango, not a shapeless duvet but a nice one with a fur hood, and a belt around the middle to give some shape and it comes down to my knees, so will hopefully keep me warm in the harsh winter which is fast approaching.

We'd been invited to a friends Birthday party on Saturday, Gina from Spain, and it was 1920's style fancy dress, so I met her Thursday night at the Yashow market to help her find accessories, and a feather boa for me. Successful trip, rewarded with a beer at a place called Nearby the Tree, not far from us. A nice cosy winter pub, and her party on Saturday was in the upstairs part. There is also the main pub called The Tree, and next door is ummm let me see if I can think of a suitable name, that's right, Next to The Tree!!! We met the boys in the pub too for a couple.

Friday night was the bi-weekly InterNations party at the hotel that we stayed at when Andy won on the bowling, in one of the bars. It was 'crazy Sombrero night' which basically meant you had to wear some sort of hat. About 30% wore hats, some more crazy than others!! I went for a suble little fascinator style hat perched on top of my head, bargained for at the market the night before. A fun night, with quite a few familiar faces, and 2 bands playing so a bit of a boogie too, and a good catch up with my friend Tracey, who I hadn't seen for a while.

Saturday our very lovely friend Gina :) got us free tickets for the Hilton food & wine festival, so a few of us met up there and we stayed from midday until 5pm, and of course, totally made the most of it!! A very sociable day, again bumped into people we knew, as well as meeting new people, I just love how you can just start up a conversation with a complete stranger anywhere here & swap your 'what brought you here' story!! All good fun, and so much wine to try, and lovely food. One of those days though where one minute you're trying Cava, then a bloody Mary, then a beer, then red, then white.... yep, you get the idea. And the food, one minute cheese, then macaroons (lots), then dumplings, then chocolate & back to the start again!! Anyway, a great day - and we watched a Guinness book world record set, by a guy who can hold the most amount of wine glasses in one hand, he broke his own record 3 times and the final figure was 53 glasses!! It always amazes me how people find out they have such talents, but I guess with him - he was a waiter, and one day just carried more & more & more!!!

A long day ahead, as it was the InterNations bowling after the food & wine festival, so home for a quick change & freshen up, then off for something to eat at Franks bar, and to meet the others before bowling. You may wonder how after stuffing our faces all day, that we needed food - you get to the point where you eat so much rubbish, and little bits & pieces you crave a hot whole plate of food!! (Tanya & Stephen, memories of our days out in London doing the same at the food & wine festivals!!!).

Our team were rubbish at the bowling, I blame it on too much alcohol during the day!! But another good turn out of around 33 people. Quite a few of us went from there to the birthday party, which didn't start until 10pm. We got there around 11.30pm, and I was thinking I'm crazy, there is no way in the UK I'd be actually GOING to a party at that time, making my excuses to leave & go to bed, definitely!! It was a cool party, and lots of people were very glamorously dressed in 1920's gear, I had my token feather boa which didn't win any prizes!! Ha ha!! Some cool music, from Chicago for example, then later some funky Spanish tunes and more dancing, time to go home at 2.30am. Yawn......

Andy got up & played squash Sunday morning, not quite sure how ;) and I went shopping again, still on a mission for black trousers & black shoes. Not a succesful day, with me getting very distressed. For example, trying to buy a fake Abercrombie hoodie in the market. Firstly, she wouldn't let me try it on - demanded I haggled on price first, crazy when I didn't even know if I wanted it, then told me I had to pay before I tried it on in case my make up ruined it whilst putting it over my head, a 'this is ridiculous' conversation resulted in me walking off and buying it from someone else, in fact a nicer one, and she actually let me try it on, so I walked passed the other stall waving my bag at her. Huh...... Several shoe shops later after hearing 'meiyou' too many times, meaning we don't have, finally found some in a department store, but for some reason the simple communication & hand gestures to say yes I want them, failed, time & time again. I even waved my money at the assistant, who spent ages laughing at me with the other assistant and finally decided to let me buy them. I walked out so annoyed!!!!

It was our friend Ash's birthday on Sunday, so 8 of us met for drinks later in the afternoon, and then went for a fabulous dinner at a restaurant called Mosto, 3 courses & a few glasses of red wine, a very lovely evening was had.

Then bed, and SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Classic Monday, healthy stir fry, sofa time, and about to watch the Hunger Games bought in the knock off DVD shop yesterday, along with the Lord of the Rings Trilogy for lazy winter Sundays. I did go for a run this morning (couldn't cope with Andy having the moral high ground again having played squash on Sunday!!). We're both aching though already!

So I guess you're all plunged into darkness there with the clocks having changed, and we're now 8 hrs ahead of you, our clocks don't change. By the time we get home from work now around 5.30ish, it's just about dark. The temperature is dropping daily, from 20 on Satuday, 14 today, then 12 by Friday. Night times from 2-4 degrees. 2 years ago it snowed at the beginning of November, but last winter no snow at all.

Right, that's all for now folks!

xx
