Monday as usual was a normal long day with us both feeling shattered from the wine tasting weekend or was it a week!!!!!! So home from work watched some tv then went to bed. Very interesting you say not....
Tuesday we was back on form and feeling fully refeshed. Hit the floor running at work and booked some appointments which was good. Tracy did her 1st signup (Congrats 10p so pleased for you). Also we worked late too. Then came home before going to my Tuesday night bowling league. Not having much time to eat I bought some steam buns from the new local shop and decided that was my tea (thats dinner to you southerners). It turned out they was sweet buns full of chocolate which wasn't very nice so in the bin they went and out I went to bowling
Wednesday night as I've just said was my 1st Men Only Event and I'd arranged for us to go to the Slow Boat Brewery Popup Bar for the evening in one of the Hutongs. I had arranged for the event to start at 7.30pm and being me I decided that it would be best if I got there early to make sure everything was ok. Boy did I get there early. I got the Tube/Subway to Qiananmen and head southwest towards the Hutong. My partner in crime Bruce turned up on his scooter and gave me a lift the last 1/2 mile to the place and we arrived at 6.30pm. The bar was open and there was a menu chalked on the wall with 6 different beers and different strenghts. Challange was set, around the board we would go. By the time the rest of the Men turned up we was half was around the board. The Slow Boat Brewery popup bar was just that a couple of wooden planks for the bar and empty kegs as seats and a table. Couldn't fit much else in. We discussed what we was going to do for our next events which range from Karting in a Night Club, Paintballing to Live weapon firing in a range. All to be done with beer haha...
Having gone round the board and settling on the Flying Whale as my favourate pint we put the world to rights till around 11.30pm
The event was at the Gallery Hotel in Gongti which is by the Workers Stadium. We arrived early as normal and Tracy changed her flat shoes for highheels before we entered. Entrance fee included 2 drinks and food. We got red wine and started to chat to people and meet a guy who came from Manton Nr Marlborough and knew the pubs we used to go too. As much as I didn't want to attend this event durung the day and was grumpy before we arrived it was the most productive event we have attended. I know some of you will not understand that I can be grumpy and it will be hard for you to comprehend the fact. Tracy still struggles with it haha.... So card handed out and collected we head home to bed. 9.30pm and I was allowed to go to bed but only if I read a book for an hour so that Tracy could get to sleep first. God that was not fair but I did it and woke up feeling.... yes you've guessed it rough......
Anyway thats enough from me I'm going to hand you over to the beautiful 10p who will tease you with the Luxury weekend we had in the New Four Seasons Hotel in Beijing. Bye for now Pezzer.
Ok, my turn!
Regarding the nasty man who's going to stick needles in my husband, I went to the British Club on Tuesday morning, and am finally a member of the committee! Helped out on the desk collecting names & money for the Christmas lunch & hot springs visit. There was a presentation by a guy who practices Traditional Chinese Medicine, particularly acupuncture. It was really interesting, and I got talking to him afterwards, and after more communication he’s going to treat Andy for his sinus problems, first 3 sessions for free to see if it works which is great
So, this weekend was spent at the brand new luxurious Four Season’s Hotel, for FREE!!!! It’s not what you know in this place, it’s WHO you know!! A very lovely friend of ours called Wen is a manager there, and invited us to stay for the weekend for their soft opening, before opening generally to the public at the beginning of November. We checked in Friday afternoon, got taken to our room which had the wow factor! Beautiful, massive, amazing bathroom with a huge tub in front of a huge window, overlooking the city from the 17th floor. It was so lovely being so clean & so new, fluffy towels, fluffy bath robes (no Lou W or my Sheffield friends, not a skanky one in sight!!). We did end up having to move rooms later on though due to a mechanical sounding wind & thunder noise from the air con vents. The staff couldn’t have done more for us, and everyone knew us by name, so Mr & Mrs Perry got moved to a Four Seasons room – an upgrade! Even bigger room (bigger than our apartment actually!), double sink, TV in the mirror of the bathroom , how cool, and another tub in the window, which I spent plenty of time in! Oh, and a posh coffee machine.
The first evening we decided to have a cocktail downstairs at the bar, cost the equivalent of 7.80 plus 15% service, so on our limited budget we thought we’d just treat ourselves to the one
Fab breakfast the next morning, and of course we ate as much as we could! Had a wander to the local shopping mall to walk off breakfast, the manager had invited to have lunch in the Italian restaurant to try it out, we were so full up after breakfast we cancelled, sadly after that we found out that we wouldn’t have had to pay…. Damn! Felt a little cheeky at that point to re-book for later!
It was a friend’s birthday, Gina – and another friend Megan had organised Saturday afternoon & evening, about a dozen of us met at the Drum Tower, and did the touristy visit to the tower for the drum show which was cool, and then a rickshaw ride around the hutongs, and a stop at a traditional hutong courtyard house, showed around by the owner & told all about it which was interesting. Back to the Drum Tower, to a bar for a few beers, then onto a lovely Malaysian restaurant for dinner. Broken up a little by a diner from the other room passing out, taking down one of those huge gas heater lamps with him, amazingly not going through the window but he was out cold
Sunday morning, another delicious breakfast, another long bath, and a 'don’t worry, you can check out any time’ from the front desk, oh thank you very much! Upon check out, the nice lady said ‘please sign here but there is no charge’….very nice thank you very much again, if we’d have known, we might have had a few more cocktails & dinner!! We left about 2pm, on a dark, wet & cold Sunday & headed home – our apartment not quite cutting it & having Four Season’s post holiday blues…..! Didn’t venture out far later on as it was raining heavily, just to Paddy’s for some food, and an evening in chilling out watching a film.
A very productive day today, lots done at work, I’ve been preparing for an appointment tomorrow, Andy has one tomorrow too & on Friday, and another client today who is transferring to us from another company, so things really are starting to come together which is brilliant.
We’ve entered a competition for the Hilton Food & Wine Festival this weekend, including tickets to the event, dinner, and a stay in the Presidential Suite, so let’s see if our luck continues for another Beijing staycation……!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
