Hello!

A good start to the week talking to my very excited best friend who was about to set sail on a dream cruise for nearly 4 weeks, nails painted, dresses packed & all ready to go. This unfortunately turned into very sad news at the end of the week that she lost her Dad, a couple of days in & stuck at sea not being able to get off the ship. Our heart goes out to you Sarah & John, as well as your Mum & Andrew. Pete was a great guy, and we know you'll miss him so much. Funny how being away from home when people need you most just magnifies things and makes it difficult not being able to be there to give support. Take care coming home today & speak soon xxxx

Tuesday night Andy had his bowling league again, so I opted for a relaxing night in. Andy had a great idea recently that I should set up a group within the InterNations network that we belong to, for a ladies only social networking group. After some forums gaining interest, I set up a group which now has 64 members and along with Catalina, who is the organiser of all the main events – set up our first get together last Wednesday. We met at the lovely Ritz Carlton Hotel for drinks, yummy cakes and one of the nicest spas in town sponsored us & gave us all a 1 hour free massage voucher. Very nice. There were only 10 of us, so a small group to begin with, but it will grow in time. The idea is to have a social group, but doing different things and having presentations about various subjects, traditional Chinese stuff, business ideas, fashion, spa’s, coffee meetings etc.

Friday evening the boss dragged us (well, ok maybe not quite!!) to the pub after work for a much needed beer, we had aimed to go to the Australian chamber drinks early evening, but as always it didn’t work out so we popped home & went to the Internations party which was a great evening out on the terrace, and the weather was good to us for being outside.

Saturday we met a couple of friends & went for brunch nearby, for just under a tenner it was a full buffet, including juice / tea / coffee, breakfast stuff, pasta, salad, steak, oysters, pastries, cakes etc. so needless to say we stuffed ourselves & made the most of it! After that we’d heard of a free wine tasting at a new shop / wine bar which was great, recently opened and it was all Californian wine, found some that we’d seen in the Napa Valley last year, got chatting to the owner from Cuba who was very knowledgeable and interesting, as well as the tasting you could buy by the glass so we had one each, and then they refund that against any bottle you buy, bargain!! Shockingly the wine is far too expensive here and you can’t always rely on it being what it says on the label (like most things to be honest!!) but the import charge on wine is 58%...... makes you appreciate the Waitrose special offers!

The monthly bowling night next arranged by Andy & our friend Rodney. Food at Franks bar before the bowling, then I scored my record of 120 which I was very pleased with. One guy scored 208…… beat that!! A great turn out again of nearly 30 people, and drinks afterwards. We’ve got to know the owner of Franks (not actually called Frank!) and he’s been so happy that we’ve taken loads of people there, he sent over a bottle of Bailey’s to the table towards the end to say thank you, shared between about 8 of us that were left, very happy!!

Sunday we’d arranged to go to a brunch arranged by a contact of ours who is in the fine wine business, he was doing a dim sum brunch accompanied by Beaujolais, again for just under a tenner. Yes, that’s right, we fed our faces again!! Sat with a lovely girl from Hong Kong & all got on well, as well as the guy that arranged the brunch, more new friends & contacts.

A relax at home, then Andy went to Paddy’s to watch the football & the grand prix, I didn’t go as I was shattered & hate it when they switch the commentary to the footie half an hour into the grand prix, so out of protest I stayed at home & watched the updates on the BBC! Also had a good chat to Mum & Dad too & caught up on all the news. Lou hope you have a fab holiday in Greece, and Mum & Dad in Ireland too. Andy very happy at the footie scores this weekend, Liverpool 18th in the league (somewhere near Southampton ha ha ha!!!), Everton 3rd in the league and won 3-0 on Saturday. Happy days.

Anyway, best go – Andy’s on the wok & tea / dinner is nearly ready.
