Hi all,

So, the start of the week was talking to Dad on Monday wishing him a happy birthday, whilst at Gunwharf, spoke to Mum & Lou briefly too, felt very weird not being there :(

Tuesday was a bit of a 'wobble' day...... we both got frustrated at work with our marketing lists, Bangkok had sent loads of contacts up but they were mainly just names & still needed researching & filling in the gaps, we both felt like we weren't getting anywhere, and that all these names / mail shots / calls weren't getting us anywhere this week. We both found we were doing different things with them & then worried each of us were doing it wrong = 2 grumpy Perry's & a wobble! Usually when it's just one grumpy Perry the other is ok, and is positive & cheers the other one up! We decided to put our grumpy faces away as we were due to go networking, and the previous Tuesday we didn't go to one as we were so shattered, so thought we best not miss another one. It was only local, walking distance at the Switch restaurant. A pleasant evening, met a few good fun people & new contacts - one works for Lenovo & lives in our block (what a suprise!!), which is quite handy as I have just brought a new Lenovo lap top!! Got talking to an Indian girl who was good fun too, and a film producer. The usual networking suspects were there too, so a catch up with them at the end.

Wednesday we got straight at work, and cracked on with what we needed to do. A few good chats with the boss during the week, saying that we need to keep up with the networking & it needs to be about 80% of our social time should be networking & 20% social, to be honest we're always chatting to people wherever we go so it's nice work really that's enjoyable! Lucky we're not shrinking violets.

Weds we decided to have a beer after work in Paddy's, but escaped before the quiz so we didn't have a repeat performance of last week!! Thursday there was a big multi-chamber networking event, welcoming everyone back from the summer - around 700 people there, we met a few of those......! A lovely event at a posh hotel, dressed up smart, a few wines & canapes. Struggled getting a taxi back, I'd had enough at that point in my high heels & needed my bed! One person we met produces the Chinese version of the Oscars, get us hey!!

We've spoken to Chantelle this week which was lovely, so if you're reading this then good luck with everything and speak to you soon. Also spoke to Lou Gilliatt on Viber (download it if you have a smart phone - you can text & talk for free via the internet), so that was fab too.

Friday night we'd booked our hotel which Andy won at the bowling last week. A very nice 5* Shangri La hotel, called Traders upper East
http://www.shangri-la.com/beijing/tradersuppereast
The boss let us have the afternoon off, so we checked in at 2pm - it was only about a 10 min ride away in a taxi. Had a lovely swim & sat in the whirlpool, chilled out and felt like we'd escaped, I believe you call it a 'staycation'!! In the evening we'd been invited to an opening of a bar / restaurant called the Blue Frog, there is one in the main town near us, and the new one was near where we were staying so we couldn't refuse - 10 entry got us free drinks ALL night long, and free food, and a free t shirt each, all the money went to charity. We got there at the start & it was already packed, the food kept coming & coming - hot dogs, burgers, skewers, choccie cake etc. so of course you stuff your face thinking it's going to run out, but it didn't, it kept coming & coming! They were also bringing round bowlfuls of vodka jelly shots in syringes, woah....!! We had a great time needless to say, and sat with some friends we always see at networking events, but all of us were there letting our hairdown which was good to see (as you can see from the silly photos!).

So, the next morning we enjoyed a recovery swim, our room didn't include breakfast so we ended up going to a fab restaurant nearby for brunch, then headed back.

Funny, but I've mentioned before how the taxi drivers are a little choosy, some days it annoys the hell out of you, and others you just get on with it - coming back from the hotel the first guy said no, the next took us, we got in - he's smoking, there are never any seatbelts in the back, a few mins into the journey he's on his mobile phone, and guess what - it all seems completely NORMAL!!! 3 months ago we were shockable, not so much now!!

Saturday night we headed out to meet our friend Al and his work colleague Chrisie, he's from India and this was his last night in Beijing before he left, so we had a few drinks & food with him. Think that's something we're going to have to accept, that people will come & go. Already some friends that arrived the same time as us, are probably going to Shanghai in the new year - but hey, we'll miss them lots but it gives us someone to stay with & catch up with in Shanghai ;)

Sunday we went to friends for lunch - they are the ambassadors / organisers of Internations in Beijing, so we felt very priveliged!! They are lovely, think I mentioned them before - Romanian & a Columbian getting married in Greece at the end of the month, she's a fashion designer so can't wait to see their wedding pics & her dress!! A lovely lunch & a few drinks.

Sunday night - Paddys for the Grand Prix, watched my boy Jenson Button qualify for pole position on Saturday, ,so was very excited. He won the race on Sunday, and it was an exciting race with a nasty crash though which wasn't good...... the only trouble is now that the football season is back, they switched the commentary onto the footie, and the bar was packed so couldn't really get into it so much (and yes, I ranted a lot about that as you can imagine!!!).

Today is a very clear day having had a cloudy & smoggy weekend, the sky is a perfect blue, the trees a perfect green, and rather uncommon, you can actually see the tops of buildings! A summers breeze = the perfect day, shame we had to work really. Although walking home tonight I actually had goosebumps, what are they?! My phone said the temperature was still 25 degrees, so obviously we've got used to the intense summer heat!!

Well, again not really very cultral - but hey, not making an apology this time, we're writing our diary really & choosing to share it with anyone who wants to read it, so this is us!! Normal sightseeing will resume soon!

Bye for now,

Tracy & Andy
