Hi all,

How are you?

Another busy week in the life of the Perry's in Beijing, and a good one too.

Tues evening was an Internations 'spin off' get together, a discussion about visa's, health, police checks etc. There was a group of 10 of us, so met a couple of new people which was good. It was at another Irish Bar across town, not as good as our local though!

Andy got his first appointment this week, someone he'd sent a mail shot too at one of the hotels & followed up with phone calls / e-mails. She came in for an appointment on Friday which went well, so he's meeting again for a 2nd appointment & some proposals which is great. Also, and enquiry he has from the website is going well, putting together some financial plans for a guy in another province, so that's communicating well by e-mail at the moment. Fingers crossed....... it's all going in the right direction anyway & the next stage is happening. I just need to get some now!! Been great having the boss back, he's gone through a lot of stuff with us again & we've learnt lots from these enquiries already. It helps when you have some reality to put it too.

Weds we popped into Paddy's for quiz night & were rubbish again!!! Came 3rd last!!

Thurs I needed my fringe cutting again as I couldn't see, so went back to the same place as before, the same guy did it but it was a bit of a disaster, crooked & too long at the sides - so went back on Saturday & he re-did it for me. After that we wandered, bumped into a couple of people we know (which is still an unexpected novelty!!). Feels nice though and like we belong. Had Vietnamese noodles for dinner, and back home to chill.

Friday night, I went to the Australian Chamber monthly drinks at a cafe near us, Andy went to watch the football, Man City v Arsenal at the Beijing Olympics stadium, the Birds Nest. I'll let him do the match report on that!!

The Aussie drinks were fun, a few glasses of vino & a good crowd, went with Ray from work but also knew quite a few people there, as well as meeting some new people.

Saturday was a chilled out morning, then I had a massage - only a cheapy backstreet one, which we're still not too sure about which ones include 'extras'!! This one was ok, so I left Andy in the garden bar opposite, quite happily with beer & free wi-fi! My massage was only 8.80 for an hour & was good although not the most luxurious of places - I was happy. You'd pay about 15 at a more luxurious spa, so still very cheap compared to UK prices.

There were quite a few Olympic parties this weekend, but the opening ceremony was at 4am our time which we didn't want to stay up for, managed to see a few hours of it on the TV Saturday, looked amazing & like London did us proud. Very impressive. Text Lou Gilliatt Saturday morning at just the right time, standing on Havant Railway station waiting in her uniform to go up to the games, hope it went well Lou, looking forward to hearing all about it.

Sat night was round 2 of the Internations bowling, food & drinks at Franks Sports bar beforehand, 3 rounds of bowling (Andy scored very well again, I was rubbish again!!). Lots of friends we'd already met, and a crowd of about 30 of us. Back to Franks after, got talking to the owner (who we met with Ray & owns the horse riding ranch & invited us up there sometime). He was so impressed we'd taken lots of people in there, he sent over 20 shots for us all! Nice!!

Been for a wander today, it's really hot, about 36 degrees and clear blue skies again after some rain on Friday night. Walked to our nearest park which is about half an hour away, Ritan Park. Lovely, lots of pine trees for shade, peace & quiet, a rocky hill with a temple on top with the views of the city all around, locals flying kites & playing badminton, a couple of ponds & a nice walk. Grabbed some food on the way home & are now chilling out & seeing who might appear on Skype!

A boring bit of info, but a nice suprise - got our first water bill, 2.80 for a whole month......!! Nice! Electricity is working out around 20 a month, which is great as we have the air con on all the time we're at home, and all night. No gas bills, no council tax equivalent which is great.

Another birthday card has found it's way here - thank you Sarah Hobday, currently in Skiathos on hols, hope you have a lovely time.

Football Report by Pez........

The amazing setting of the Birds Nest Stadium welcomed Man City and  Arsenal for a preseason warm up game. A large crowd turned up to watch but it wasn't sold out like it was said to be. In fact Alistair & I could actually pick where we wanted to sit on the 2nd tier. We was sat right behind the goal which was on the other side of the running track. Should have taken a set of binoculars to see the goalie....Both teams fielded a reasonable team of senior plays which was good. However, to actually tell who played I couldn't really say as the players didn't have names on their shirts and everything was announced in chinese. How rude lol..........

The 1st half kicked of with Man C attacking the goal in front of us. However, Arsenal did most of the attacking for about 30mins. I think the heat was getting to alot of players as it was still 32 degrees at 8pm so it was a slowish game. With 10 mins left in the 1st half Man C started to attack and within 5mins they where 2 up. Both really well worked goals see BBC Sports for scorers lol. So at half time it was 2-0 to Man City. Come on you northerners Both Alistair & I are very happy as Alistair is from Preston(North End Fan).

At half time we stayed in our seats as it wasn't worth getting up as there was no beer on sale in the stadium. Gutted no beer on a friday night.......... We had a coke and a cold hamburger and I mean cold as they don't heat them up for you at all...........

As the 2nd half is about to start the heveans open up and according to the BBC a monsoon hit. In fact it just rained hard for the whole second half. Thankfully the Birds nest has a roof well the part we was sat did. It was fun watching the coaching staff getting soaked and half the crowd.

Well back to the game... Arsenal changed a few players and where good going forward but just couldn't hit the back of the net. I think the weather help the players as it was a little cooler with the rain and the game was alot faster. But the pitch slowly became waterlogged and the tackles came flying in mostly followed by a flood of water. Neither team hit the back if the net in the second half so the game end 2-0 Man City. So two happy Northerners left the stadium well as happy as you can be without a beer on a friday night lol.

As you can tell the game wasn't that great but it was a great setting and worth going. Tip for next time get a drink outside before going in and don't get a hamburger.........
