Well our legs ached for days after the great wall climb!! Recovered now though.
Chilling Sunday night with a DVD was nice, the best golden marigold hotel was fab!! Made us laugh all the way through, and some heart warming moments. If Rosie & Steve you're reading, it really reminded me of our Indian holiday (not that I'm saying you're old like them or anything ;) it was just so many moments that took me back there!
Busy at work again, making 'luke warm calls' (that's as opposed to cold calls!!) which I don't like, but we're following up the mailshots with calls to try & get some appointments, no luck so far but with a ratio of 100 calls, 10 appointments, 1 sale - every no means we're closer to a yes (and yes, I have been reading too many sales books.....) The big boss has come back from the UK to Bangkok, and is back with us in Beijing on Tues, so need to swot up on everything!!
Forgot to mention in Sunday's blog about the driving when we went out to the great wall - getting out of the city was one thing, the freeway was so busy & queues for the toll, once out the other side we were moving ok, and what amazed me was the undertaking of the Police car,in all 3 lanes AND the hard shoulder!! It just seemed the norm, so if any of my traffic cop mates are reading, you'd have had a field day! Once in the countryside, undertaking seemed the norm too, and horns replace indicators as they do in the city, and parking anywhere & abandoning vehicles is the norm too, even if you're at a very busy tourist destination!!! I don't think we will EVER drive here!! And thankfully right now we don't need to. Feet, legs & public transport suffice.
Tues morning I went to the British Club coffee morning, most people go home for the summer so the usual every other week club packs up in favour of monthly coffee mornings in our town so that was handy, nice to have about 10 people only - so really got chatting to a few others at length.
Off out to a networking for financial professionals tonight (stop yawning!), at the usual Marriott Hotel, need to meet some more people & get some more business cards.
So, Chantelle is 21 today so we wish you a very happy 21st birthday Chantelle, and you're making your Dad feel very old having a 21 year old daughter. And I feel very old too approaching 41 tomorrow......!!!
Later on this evening........
Back from the Marriott, a really good evening - funny how you walk in, not too many people there, so you wander up to a couple of guys who also 'work in finance' and as conversation continues, they work for our competitors!! Ok, so how much time shall we spend being polite before moving on....???!! Actually, they made me feel a lot better, one has been here a couple of months, and the other has only been with the company a few weeks having moved from being a kindergarten teacher! A few of the Chinese girls looked familiar, and are the same people that we've met before at other events, again some working for competitors & actually, they are making us look good coz they throw business cards at people asking 'what can I do for you' without really understanding the nature of the business or being able to have an intelligent discussion about it, they just move onto the next table. A couple of people have even said tonight to us 'we'd rather deal with you'.
The funniest thing was 2 people from America who work for an aeroplane company, one sells the planes the other one in her words 'makes them look pretty', in other words is in design - they were just in town for a couple of days staying at the hotel when the networking group descended on them, asking names & occupations, throwing business cards at them! We ended up sitting with them for the night chatting whilst meeting others too, so a fab night actually!
Night night all,
