I am writing this entry 2 years after being in Hong Kong, but i still remember my feelings about the city very clearly. I spent a total of 2 weeks in the city with the purpose of reworking my visa and relaxing.

We, my aunt grandma and I, arrived in Hong Kong after a long but somewhat interesting 24 hour train ride where we met many interesting people. The city amazed me with its beauty. It is a city built right up on the ocean shore and adapting to fit into the small area it owns. We were going to be staying in a small (like every living area in Hong Kong) but nice apartment on the 20th floor of a tower. The apartment had a view of the city that could only be gotten to by taking a ferry across the ocean. I spent the first couple days swimming in the ocean and enjoying the things, such as subway sandwiches, that i had no access to for 2 months in main land china, but were all over the city of hong kong. It didn't take me long though to start missing the main land. it seemed to me as if time was beginning to rush. everywhere i went the saying 'time is money' described what i saw. Sure not everyone was a business man in the city, but life just seemed more stressful. It was a major change from the rest of china where life was laid back. The city was different it seemed to me to have more people of European descent than chinese, and seemed to have a major wealth gap between the many people who lived their. When i bought things the money seemed to disappear, a meal costed 3 times as much as what it would on the other side of the hong kong border. Hong Kong was like an awakening to me. I was in shock in a way. I started seeing the world in a differently.

When i crossed the border back into the main land though everything seemed to return to what seemed normal for me. life became less stressful and i was a changed man. Its amzing how much difference that little man made border caused.
