Both Eddie and I hadn't been to Korea in a very long time.  I was there over 10 years ago and Eddie was just a kid the last time he visited.  We had left the States back in May with no intention of stepping foot into the country our parents immigrated from.  But getting sick presented us with a decision that needed to be made.  Do we go back home to our own families in California but without health insurance or head to Korea where I'd have to depend on relatives, much less in-laws, I barely knew to nurse me back to health?  Ultimately, our commitments in Japan for the month of August and our travel insurance coverage landed us in Seoul rather than LAX.  I'm happy to report that it was a decision well-made.

Korea was a much-needed time-out from our on-the-go travels elsewhere in Asia.  We had no must-see sites, no trains/planes to catch, no hotels to check into, no backpacks to constantly lug around, and no wondering where our next meal will come from.  We arrived with no objective other than getting well and spending time with relatives.  I always knew that I had married into an awesome family but being in Seoul and meeting Eddie's extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, etc., I felt exponentially blessed.  We were fed sooo well, driven around everywhere, taken on weekend trips, and even shopped for.  We were given the royal treatment and to top it off, they wouldn't let us pay for anything!  Who does that?  Hopefully, we can return the favor when they visit the States.

As far as what we did, I'll let the pictures do most of the talking because trying to cover 2 weeks of activity in one entry is a bit much but I do want to mention some of the more memorable things we did:

1.  Miss Korea Pageant 2010:  I have never been to a beauty pageant and I don't think I ever want to go to another.  It's not that it was bad....just not my thing.

2.  Attended Eddie's grandma's 90th birthday on a U.S. military base (sidenote:  The Han family has amazing genes.  I've never met any grandma far along in her years with such great posture and such a strong grip.)

3.  Celebrated the big 3-0!

4.  Crossed the border and stepped into North Korea (covered in a different entry)
