This was a long day of driving! Since the car mishap had put us behind, we had to go to Phoenix after San Francisco to fit everyone's schedule there. Originally, we had planned to go to Joshua tree before Phoenix. That would have been a much shorter trip!

Since I so desperately had to go to Joshua Tree, we had to go there from Arches, and then on to pick up the car. This meant many hours of driving across 4 states! It was a beautiful drive for most of the way, so I'm not complaining about that. What I am complaining about is the fact that we didn't make a reservation for a campsite!

The short time that I had been in Joshua Tree before, we had rolled in at sunset and just found a spot to camp in one of the best campgrounds. That was Summer, what I thought was the busy season, so I didn't see the point of reserving anything in the Spring. Apparently, Spring is their busy season, so almost everything was full!

I thought we might have just enough time before sunset to set up camp, and then I could take some sunset pictures. We ended up driving through the park during sunset (again!), passing all of the full campgrounds along the way. Then we drove to a park campground at a separate entrance that was so far out of the way.

At this point Dave was annoyed and I was determined. At the very least, I was going to get my star pictures that I had planned to take here. So, we set up our tent with much difficulty due to the extremely gusty winds, and Dave made my dinner while I started taking some pictures. He wanted to be sure that I get some good pictures if I was putting him through another uncomfortable night of camping!

It was cold and windy, but I didn't feel any of that while I took my pictures. Occasionally, I feared that a rattlesnake would strike as I stumbled close to some bushes in the dark. The only animal we saw was a Kangaroo Rat. It was so cute! I wish I had gotten a picture, but I was already set up with two cameras aiming at the sky. I had some dinner and Dave went to sleep. I kept shooting until I was happy with at least a few shots. Then I went off to bed where I finally started feeling the freezing cold!
