Oh my it really is hillbilly country here and the flag flies proudly.

Today I headed to Dollywood. I think Dolly is fantastic so don't want to say anything too bad, but the word lame continually sprung to mind. Doesn't mean I didn't giggle all day long, but alas it was more at rather than with. Sorry Lou Lou I had such high hopes for a positive report.

If anyone's been, and probably most of you haven't, it's a bit like Timbertown in Wauchope, NSW, on a larger scale accompanied by a lot of bible bashing and patriotism.

The problem is that I'm neither a devoted god loving Christian nor am I American, but the majority were and they are the target market.

I went to two different shows, one gospel the other country (or hillbilly) and in both the order went God, then veterans, then God bless America, with a hand on the heart standing ovation for an anthem style tribute. To give a bit of an example the performers in the first show said, and I quote, "there's two people willing to die for you, the first was God the second the American soldier". It's great that they're proud, it just wasn't for me.

I preferred one of the quotes from the second show, "I'm so excited I could thread a sewing machine running", what the?

The best part was going through the museum checking out Dolly's fancy frocks.

Still you can't come all the way here and not see it, and I'm glad I did see it.

With Dollywood behind me I pinned all my hopes on the nights entertainment, which was corny but didn't disappoint as corny was what I was expecting. Thanks for an entertaining night Dolly's Dixie Stampede.

Again probably many of you won't know the place I'm referring too, but it was like a mix of El Caballo Blanco (a dancing horse show) and dinner theatre. There were shiny outfits and tricks performed on horseback and even a pig race! Hilarious night, but sadly no pics allowed, would have loved to share some of the outfits and images. Never mind I'm sure a quick google search by anyone interested will turn up some suitably corny pics.

PS I saw a ground hog today! I thought they were just made up but apparently not, there's actually a mid winter ceremony just like the movie, who'd have thunk it!

Suzanne on

The last two days blogs have nearly had me in tears laughing. You've proved that everything they say about the south is no exageration. Good ole Dolly!!
I forgot to tell you when you went to Anasazi that I have a Painted Pony called the Anasazi Spirit Horse. He has lots of black and white swirls on him. Now I know where he comes from. How cool!!

Love you
Mum
