We arrived in Parati on Wednesday after a 4.5 hr bus trip from Rio. The bus was extremely comfortable! But we have been advised not to get too used to it as once we hit bolivia, they are pretty dodgy.
Parati is a beautiful little tourist town that has been here for hundreds of years. It has cobble stoned streets, some of which are closed to traffic, with lots of little stores & cute restaurants to look at. The town is very popular with people from Rio & Sao Paulo who come here for weekends & in the summer.
We explored the town & had some lunch in a little cafe ... then bumped into some of our tour group & sat down by the wharf having a cerveja (beer) while a little man in a cafe next door played his guitar & sang brazilian songs. It was pretty relaxing!
We had dinner as a group that evening at a Thai place ... the only one we´ll visit in the whole of south america, so it had to be done! They had Pad Thai on the menu ... but we couldn´t bring ourselves to order it, since it would have cost AUD20.00 ... you would never pay that much at home! It was a little overpriced for what you got, but the richer people come here for holidays, so I guess they can charge that much and people will pay. After dinner we went to a little bar by the park & were entertained by a crazy local dude called Dennis who makes a living out of making hats out of coconut leaves, so it seemed.
Today was awesome. We had a big old style yacht to ourselves, the weather was beautiful, there was a musician on board who sang in portugese (even sang `I just called to say I love you´ by stevie wonder mostly in portugese!), and the water was ... refreshing! We stopped in about 4 different places & they fed us a beautiful lunch ... I´m not trying to rub it in, these are the facts, people!!! We were out on the boat for about 6 hours ... so I´m a little darker than before & still feel like I´m on the boat ... I will never, ever get my sea legs! We have no set agenda for the rest of the evening, a light dinner & early bed, as we are heading to Sao Paulo tomorrow ... a 7 hour bus ride ... and it´s a public holiday tomorrow so the town will be pumping!

Thanks for the info so far Tan. Try to keep it up but I'm sure you will slow down. You are making me very envious. Love to you both, Eil
Wish we were there
Hi Darling Tanya and Chrisso, the trip sounds wonderful so far and you have logged a wonderful discription of everything, keep it up. Wish we were there. Looking forward to hearing about the next leg of your tour. Miss you both heaps lots of love and kisses, Mum and Dad
You never disappoint when it comes to emails
Tan, I would have thought after all these years your travel writing would have dwindled in length however looking at these first couple of entries you are still going strong! All those nights we used to sit up and write travel diaries and I would be done in 10 mins and you in 2 hours. Good to see you are keeping up the tradition! Your trip sounds wonderful so far, wish I was there experiencing it all with you both. Keep safe & enjoy. Lots of love - Kirst xox
This is great!
Thanks Tanya :-) this is great. I have been printing out the pages to give to Mum to read! (Don't know what she will think of the gay bar episode).......however, sounds like you are having a wonderful time; Lots of Love Madingo xxx
