After the previous 10 days of mayhem that Rio de Janeiro served up, I decided to take it rather easy in Ushuaia in the lead up to my tour to Antarctica. Therefore I did not achieve too much in the three days that I stayed here, knowing that I would have the opportunity to make up for lost time on my return.

One thing that I can definitely comment on was my lack of preparation for the landing in Ushuaia. After having spent the previous month in temperatures all above 30 degrees, I had departed Rio de Janeiro wearing no more than shorts and a T-shirt. On my arrival to Ushuaia, I had learnt that the temperature was 5 outside, and I realized that all of my warm clothes were packed away deep inside my backpack. Too lazy to disassemble my pack just to get out some pants and a jumper and have to reassemble it again, I chose to brave the 20minute hike to my hostel. By the time I arrived I was frozen and the girl at the reception laughed at me and said "You do know it's cold out in Ushuaia". What an odd statement to have made, I felt that if anyone knew that it was cold outside, it was me.
