Bloomington, Illinois... oy!

My time in the actual city of Bloomington was rather uneventful. I stayed in the hotel that night and enjoyed some Chinese food delivery, and then we had a really good show for a rather small, but appreciative audience.

Leaving Bloomington is really where the chaos begins. The show actually took place in Normal, IL... what kind of a city name is that anyway?!? When driving out of town, headed South, the directions I had printed from Google Maps, were not the clearest and we ended up going past our turn. It was me and my electrician in the truck that day, and we decided to turn around in the parking lot of a moving van company. When turning around, she cut the corner a little wide and it we ended up driving over the grass. Unfortunately for us, it had been raining for several days straight and said grass had turned into a giant mud pit. Now, our 23,000 lb 26' Penske truck is in no way designed for mudding, and needless to say, we got stuck! Not my ideal way to start our drive. The guys in the moving company were an odd bunch as well. One guy was a total jerk. He was condescending and just kept asking how it happened, and what was going to happen to his grass. The other guy was incredibly nice, tried to help pull us out, and even offered a number to his towers. Ultimately, we called Penske and they send out a tow truck to pull us out of the mud. It was not fun.

Then, when on the road, I decided to face one of my ridiculous dislikes/fears. Those who know me well, know that I have an unnatural dislike/fear of cornfields. Nothing good comes out of cornfields. Every movie that has ever had a cornfield, has had something not right come out of it. And for those who will say, "Oh, but Field of Dreams" was good... I must correct you and still say THEY WERE DEAD!!! So, all of Illinois is cornfield. Even more so than Ohio. When we pulled into the gas station, surrounded by cornfields, I walked up to within 3 feet of one and had my electrician take my photo.

They the day ended with some stunningly beautiful sunsets on the flat lands of IL. The spectrum of colors was gorgeous.

What an odd day!

Halloween in Macon, GA is next...
