"Muck Fichigan" is one of my first memories of Columbus, Ohio and arriving at Ohio State. The whole campus is littered with shirts, posters, signs, etc that all say Muck Fichigan. As a die hard sports fan, I quickly embraced this slogan of my newly adopted 2nd favorite college sports team, the Buckeyes. Back in the gold ol' U of F, we hate a lot of schools. The traditional 3 are Tennessee, Florida State, and Georgia. But up in Big 10 Country, there is one rivalry to rule them all... Ohio State v. Michigan. And really and truly, the only rivalry that is stronger is Red Sox v. Yankees. I took all of this in good humor and fun, and never really held anything against the state of Michigan or it's people... just it's University and Wolverines.

That is until, I actually arrived here.

Now to be fair, the people of Michigan are incredibly nice. I have yet to meet a single unfriendly person.

But this state is boring, boring, boring. The skies are grey, the wind is cold, the roads are terrible, construction is abundant, and there are lots of sad, forgotten houses and towns that we have passed. I can't wait to leave. Someone invent teleportation already.

Okay, Michigan, you have 2 more chances to win me over... Detroit Suburbia and Kalamazoo... we'll see how you fair...

Michigan
First of all, ease up. You're in Saginaw. Not exactly a town we're proud of. The last I heard, it had the highest number of abandoned houses in the country. While the weather has been nasty, it is actually beautiful right now in suburban Detroit--sunny, 60, perfect fall weather. If you want to talk about boring, drive through northwest Ohio. Believe me, I have. Far too many times. We, at least, have trees. And the construction, while annoying, is happening across the country right now, so don't go blaming Michigan for government-sponsored projects.

Second: The rivalry between OSU and UofM is a big deal. But *most* UofM fans will tell you they care more about the MSU game. It's just that OSU fans are complete assholes. I've never met an Ohio resident who had threats left on their car simply because it had Ohio plates (not OSU, just State of Ohio).

That said... I'm still hoping to see you on this trip. CALL ME!! I'm in a pretty suburban Detroit area, waiting to hear from you...

I know, I know
I knew you'd hate me for this post. And I am still holding out that the rest of the state will make up for where we are right now. And again, everyone has been incredibly nice, I'm just trapped in a hotel with nothing near by. I sent you a facebook e-mail on Friday with my Michigan itinerary.

...and it's really not as bad as I'm making it out to be. You know how blog rambles get :)
