Pat> On the 14th April we entered California with a dribble of fuel in our tanks, Ben promptly ran out of fuel in the middle of the Mojave Desert at noon, it was a tad hot. Chris and Jim decided they had enough  fuel between them to ride on to the next town where we hoped there would be a petrol station, fortunately there was! Bringing the fuel back to Ben and myself was a more difficult task then expected due to there being no slip roads for a long stretch which would make the round trip over 50 miles, but being adventure motorcyclists they decided to cut across the central median, saving us alot of time. After we had fuelled up we headed up the inter-state towards the quaint oil town of Bakersfield, which we later found to be the biggest dive in California. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there though after meeting quite a few different characters. Waking up in Bakersfield with sore heads the next morning we had to get to Santa Cruz by the end of the day to meet my relations. the day had a slow start but when we got to Highway 1 on the coast the mood picked up. It was without doubt the best road we'd all collectively ridden, with  the Pacific Ocean on one side and rising cliffs on the other, it was serious knee down territory. Getting to Santa Cruz that evening was a welcome relief where we met our hosts for the next week, Jim  and Wendy. After covering over 4000 miles in 9 days we were all knackered. The bikes also deserved some attention now. Jim C got us settled in his families' beach house in the surf town of Capitola. After getting in and showered were shown the town by Robin, Jim's daughter, and Jess where we got pretty larried and spread some English slang. Over the next week we serviced the bikes, visited Yosemite, Compton in LA and San Francisco.

Chris> Our Californian experience was one that we will never forget. We would like to thank the Cumming family and all of their friends, for taking care of us and showing unbelievable generosity.
