I arrived in San Antonio at about 6pm on Saturday 12th April. Apparently clickly through all of the 'yes please book my car' options on the Hertz website just means that you might want the car and they don't actually book it until you turn up at the desk expecting to drive away. The lock on my new suitacase from Kazakhstan was kindly broken open by the frinendly lads at the Air Traffic Safety department of the US.

The drive from the Air port was relatively easy with the GPS after only one U-turn. The El Troplicano is a nice hotel, clean rooms with the only complaint being the absence of a fridge to put milk in. Americans like their coffee with a un-identifiable white powder.

In the centre of the city there is a marvelous river/canal side walkway. The river is just over 4/5 meters below street level and the cobblestone paths are edged with all manner of resturants. The Cypres trees and vegitation are magnificent. I imagine it stays pretty cool in Summer as well.

The two American/Texan/Mexican resturants have both been good so far. Hopefully I will get more of a chance to look at some of the shops over the next few days.
