So I woke up refreshed, and wanted to get an early start to the day. Last night I was told how to take a scenic ride to Mayberry RFD. The real name of the town is Mount Airy but its where the Andy Griffith Show was inspired. Andy grew up there and still lives there today. I kept whistling the theme song as I motored down the winding hills passed cherry orchards and wondering about goober and Barney Fife and Opie. when I arrived in town There was a real Black and White 1964 Ford Galaxie Police Car driving down Main St. It even had the big ol' Sireen on the roof. Next I saw Floyd's Barber Shop and Slappy's Lunch. I was expecting to see Gomer Pyle come walking over to greet me. Instead there was an old guy checking out my bike with all the sleeping bag and luggage attached and he asked where I was from. We got to talking and he told me all about Andy Griffith going to school there and being in the Drama Club where he learned to act. He says he still has a home there and so does the woman who played Andy's girlfriend. I thanked him for the info and he recomended Slappy's for breakfast. Eggs and Bisquits with Sausage Gravy, no Grits. After that I headed back to the BRP to go meet Mike and Susie.
